In Peru's second-most populous city, aka "The White City," stunning colonial buildings made of pearly sillar stone vie for attention with the surrounding volcanoes and snow-capped peaks of the western Andes. Founded in 1540, it's a smorgasbord of mansions and museums. The top attraction, 215,000-square-foot Santa Catalina Monastery, is like its own city within a city, complete with fountains and cobblestone streets. Arequipa is the favorite base for visiting Colca Canyon and its massive condors.

He demonstrates each step & then lets you prepare each ingredient and he gives you the recipes to take home. Looking forward to recreating this at home! Wish we would have had more time to do another class with him. I highly recommend this class and I would certainly go again if I come back! Thanks Art!!

The classes run for 2.5 hours and include: - Explanation of the bean to bar chocolate making process and history of cacao - Roasting and husking your own cacao beans - Making your own cacao paste in the traditional Mexican style with a granite stone morter - Making Xocolatl, an ancient Mexican drink. - Blind taste of different chocolates to understand the differences between commercial and artisan chocolate - Making your own chocolates with Andean grains, like quinoa, kiwicha, and coca to take home with you. The class is taken within our Chaqchao café where we also sell organic Peruvian coffee, organic homemade desserts, craft Peruvian beer and of course our bean to bar chocolates.
We really enjoyed the class with Adrian, he is so passionate and knowledgable about all things chocolate, we’ve taken away a lot of new knowledge and will definitely try to make our own back home, sourcing only the best ingredients! Thank you :)

This 17th century convent has been rebuilt several times due to earthquake damage. Now a museum, its rooms contain mummies, masks and souvenirs collected on missionary travels.
Our guide suggested we visited here on our free afternoon and it was a really great way to spend a couple of hours. Very quiet, we had most galleries and the church to ourselves. Lots of interesting and unusual things on display, definitely worth going to.

This museum’s main attraction is Juanita, whose ritually sacrificed and frozen body was unearthed in a volcanic explosion. This young girl’s miraculously preserved DNA has provided priceless insight into the Inca civilization.
I visited the museum today and took the guided tour, I ended up doubling the amount I was going to tip the guide because she was so informative about the ice maiden Juanita and the other sacrificial children. The collection is small but fascinating how it all links together. I'm not much of a museum person but I highly recommend this one, especially if you plan to trek the Colca canyon.
