The remains of the city's striking 12th-century cathedral.
The Ardfert Cathedral is immediately impressive. Located in a small town, the ruins of the cathedral tower high over everything, with much of the cathedral's outside walls still intact. It's very beautiful to see from a distance, and impressive to walk through. The museum space in the church is very informative, with well created displays and artifacts. We had just climbed the St. Brendan pilgrimage trail on Mount Brandon that morning, so learning more about St. Brendan at Ardfert Cathedral was perfectly timely. Others have said to stop if in the area, but this would be a worthy destination for any traveler, whether passing through or someone looking for a day-trip destination. Great visit.
