Adjacent to the beautiful and friendly town of Bellaire. Our family visits weekly. I was intimidated by the trails several years ago since I can easily get "lost in the woods", yet they have been wonderfully marked and a map is available nearly every 1/2 mile or so. Miles and miles of paths to explore. I fell in love with Kensington Metropark and Island Lake State Recreation area in Milford and Brighton, Michigan more than 20 years ago. I thought I couldn't replace those places. I think I have.

Great paths, including boardwalks through wetlands and along the Grass River, provided a great walking site!

Twisted Fish Gallery features original paintings, sculpture, jewelry, glass, pottery, metal and wood pieces. The artists we represent are selected for the high quality of the work they create. Find an original piece for your home, office or garden. Voted "Best Fine Art Gallery" two years running by TRAVERSE magazine readers. Open year-round.
Artistic work from artists near and far, displayed in a cozy setting in two separate buildings. Fans of Anni Crouter will be pleased to see large pieces available, as well as work from Michigan jewelry makers, north woods style, prints, pottery, one of a kind pieces. All nicely displayed in two buildings as well as outdoor spaces for metalwork and other outdoor pieces. Easily accessible on Hwy 31 on the artists corridor going north toward Petoskey and above. This gallery is charming and it’s a sure bet you cannot leave without buying something you’ll love forever.

Two parks for the price of nothing! The north entrance leads to a very nice beach with great views. Their are some great rocks for people into rock collecting. Their are places to park and trails to hike. At the south entrance you park then there are trails to hike. 1 leads back to the north park. The other one leads to about a 5 minute hike to a stream view area. You'll see the stream almost right away, but in the distance and between foliage. It's a very nice stream, though nothing epic. There is then a 3 minute hike to the beach where the stream meets Lake Michigan. Again here the views are spectacular. Thetrails could be better marked and better upkept to get rid of low branches. The trail connecting the two parks is about 0.8 miles. Overall a 5 star review.

An iconic ski and golf resort in northern Michigan, Shanty Creek Resorts is a three-resort experiences in one. Its four villages of SCR (Summit, Cedar River, Hawk's Eye, and Schuss) span over 5,500 acres across hardwood forests, rolling meadows and atop mountain bluffs with miles of camera-ready views. With nearly 400 lodging options, multiple dining venues, four award-winning golf courses, two ski mountains, a 6-lane tubing park, three terrain parks, plus fitness center and wellness spa, and 36,000+ sq ft of conference and event space, Shanty Creek Resort has been an Up North destination for generations.
From the front desk to the ski rental workers to the Lakeview restaurant staff, everyone at Shanty Creek Resorts made us feel welcomed and valued. Even with Covid restrictions in place, the service, food and ski lines were good.Definitely will be back next year!
