Built on a narrow, rocky ridge, Antananarivo occupies a strategic point at the center of the island of Madagascar. Two forts watch over the city from the east and southwest, while within the city limits lay royal palaces, embassies, some fifty churches and a mosque. The city's most distinguishing feature may be the burnt out remains of the Rova, or Queen's Palace, situated on a prominent hill. Its steep alleys and stairways make Antananarivo a challenging but rewarding city to explore on foot.

Your visit in this tour is the favorite place of all travelers known as Ambohimanga. Considered one of the country’s most sacred spots by the Malagasy people for 500 years, the Royal Hill of Ambohimanga is a historical village that was once home to Madagascar royalty. The wall that surrounds the village was made in 1847 and was constructed with a mortar made of lime and egg whites. We especially designed this expedition for great explorers. You'll be unharted mountain ranges and conquer some of the highest peaks of the Great Island. It is sport of course, but nothing too technical, and a good shape. This is a long day of driving, and, unlike other operators, we are realistic about the timing. You really do need to leave early in the morning to see the lemurs still active. But, if you do not have time to overnight, it is the only way to see wild lemurs within driving distance of Antananarivo. Our team are specialist English-speaking driver / guides, who travel with English-speaking clients all year. Once you arrive in Andasibe, the visit will totally absorb you in the amazing nature of Madagascar until your return to Antananarivo. Schedule of tour: 05:30 depart Antananarivo 09:30 enter Analamazaotra or Mitsinjo Park (2.5 hour visit) 12:00 transfer to Vakona Hotel to visit Lemurs Island 13:00 lunch at Vakona Hotel Restaurant (included food-only set-menu) (if available - may be substituted for a different restaurant, or, a picnic) 14:00 transfer to Moramanga to Peyrieras Reserve 15:00 leave Peyrieras to return to Tana 19:00 arrive at your hotel in Antananarivo
Inclusions: Private transportation, A 1.5 litre bottle of water is supplied for each person., All entrance fees to parks, Lunch
Exclusions: Snacks, Alcoholic Beverages, Gratuities
I would thoroughly recommend Dadamanga for any trips in Madagascar. I was initially impressed by how much Brett helps people on the forum boards regardless of whether they book with him or not. After getting a few quotes we decided to go with Dadamanga due to their knowledge & Bretts helpfulness on TA and we booked a 3 week itinerary. I was highly impressed but their speed, responses, willingness to adjust the itinerary and overall communication. The tour was fantastic and it was reassuring to know we had the team available if we needed them. Roberto met us at the airport and helped us getting a SIM card for the phone, and then the following day we met Aina and Angelo who accompanied us for the trip. Both Aina (tour guide) and Angelo (driver) were fantastic, they knew when to let us sleep and relax in the car and when to talk to us and give us facts. They were always smiling and willing to help. The hotels and arrangements all went smoothly which i think is pretty amazing for Madagascar where anything can happen! The driving times were all longer than we expected and something to be aware of, but the scenery along the way is great. Towards the end of the trip I think the travelling and food caught up with me and I felt very unwell and wasn't sure what to do, Brett was able to offer some options and it was very reassuring to know that the Dadamanga team were there.

This tour will allow you to explore the central east of Madagascar. We start from the Rain Forest of Perinet to see more than 6 species of lemurs, the rarest plants, many species of lemurs, reptiles, amphibians … this exceptional nature can be explored on foot between waterfalls, rivers, and rainforests. Then cross to Palmarium Reserve (dream nest) to see the rarest lemur called AYE-AYE, have contact with lemur before heading on the Pangalane canal to the big city of the East. From Tamatave, the paradise island of Sainte Marie welcomes us. Beaches, coconut palms but also very cheerful people, the island is perfect for sea and land excursions. Its lush vegetation and various crops such as vanilla, cloves, coffee,… give it a fresh and unique flavor. Humpback whales passing from mid-June to September makes it even more attractive.

I booked a solo trip with Tony, we did a sort of on the fly trip, with a very rough itinerary that we could change on route if we pleased. It went great Tony was very flexible and was able to solve issues quickly to keep everything going smoothly! I just noticed someone give Tony a bad review saying that he smoked, drank alot, and wanted extra money. I never experience any of that, Tony was very respectful and whenever I wanted coffee and fruit, he paid for it and never asked for any extra money. I even did extra activities on top of the planned itinerary and he was able to set it up no problem. If I ever go back to Madagascar it will be with my bro Tony.

You are picked up at your hotel in Antananarivo (Tana) in the morning and begin the beautiful drive east through National Route 2 on this shared tour. This region of Madagascar is characterized by its wet climate, thanks to the dense, beautiful and biodiverse rainforest within. Crossing staggering landscapes dotted with traditional houses and myriad small villages, the road today gives a feel for the traditional lifestyle of the Malagasy people. The tour will pass by abundant rice paddies, chimney-less long clay red houses, and thousands of roadside markets displaying a variety of handicrafts. You will also see the endemic and tasty Mada-only fruit, as well as organic free-range meat markets. You will arrive in Andasibe in the late morning. Later, a visit to Vakona private park.

My guide Edilson, was good. He knows the history of the places we visited, but the structure of the tour and service is way too low for this price. You can get a Ballon ride in Bagan for US$300! So, the mean of transportation is tuk-tuk, which is a surprise because it is not mentioned in the description. Of course, using slow transportation means you cannot quickly reach different places. I did not get bottled water, although it is the tour description. I tried exactly three exotic fruits in the market. Better do not ask about hygene! I got a lunch (though tasty!) in a very mediockre lunch place. I visited Fortress, one Art exhibition, park, an inyard of museum and I saw from a distance two churches ,and visited a handicraft market and French Culture center. In comparison: a guided walking tour (3 hours) in Bruklyn to visit around 60+ murals costed US$20. A walking tour in Kyiv (3,5 hours) to see architecture pearls costed US$20 per person.
