William Lamb Memorial Studio

Formerly the studio of sculptor William Lamb, this museum was paid for by the commission the artist received for his sculptures of Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother.

This is a superb, breathtaking collection of powerful and moving sculptures in wood and stone by little known C20th Montrosian sculptor. Expertly curated by volunteers. Must be seen. Look for summer open times. Nearby is a gem of a local Museum, Montrose Museum, packed with interesting collections and artefacts including a display of taxidermy showing local wildlife and habitats which children adore!

Gateway to the Glens Museum

ANGUSalive’s Gateway to the Glens Museum is situated in Kirriemuir Town House, a building that has been at the heart of Kirriemuir since its construction in 1604. The Museum opened in 2001 after the building was carefully restored and conserved. Here at Kirriemuir Gateway to the Glens Museum, local people and visitors to the town can discover the unique atmosphere of historic Kirriemuir and the splendour of the Angus Glens. Stepping through the door, visitors experience a vivid introduction to the history, culture and natural environment of ‘Kirrie’ and the western Angus glens, with recordings of local people, computer interactives and permanent displays. Illustrated talks and children’s events complement and develop the variety of temporary displays that take place throughout the year.

St Vigeans Stones and Museum

This site is closed for now. We’re working hard to gradually reopen the places you love while making sure the experience is safe for everyone. It is hard to believe that this sleepy Angus village of St Vigeans was once the centre of a royal estate and of huge religious importance, bustling with prayerful pilgrims and monks. This was more than 1,000 years ago, so visitors could be forgiven for missing the evidence that is scattered around and in the walls of the late medieval church perched on a striking 40ft mound in front of them. The most important indications of the village’s powerful past can be found in two adjoining sandstone cottages along its only street. Within their walls in Historic Scotland’s museum are housed 38 carved stones, which had once stood up on the old church mound to broadcast early messages of the true Christian faith. The newly refurbished museum gives overdue recognition to the significance of the carvings.

Glenesk Folk Museum

Reviewed By keano23 - Birnam, United Kingdom

This place is really excellent in every way. It has an excellent cafe with home baking and very good coffee at reasonable prices plus a wee gold mine of a museum which gives an excellent insight into how life was in the early 20th century and even a little before. First class in every way plus of course a trip up one of the beautiful Angus glens. Well done to the staff on site for making this such an super place to visit.
