There are 2,000 years of history in Cologne, and visitors here will find everything from Roman towers to Gothic churches to fine examples of modern architecture. Cologne has a variety of museums, too—check out the Museum of Applied Art, the Museum Ludwig and, if you have a sweet tooth, the Chocolate Museum. Be forewarned, though—the gift shop at the latter will utterly ruin your diet.

First things first - this is NOT a souvenir shop, the sign outside of the store says so. What the Nutcracker-House or Nussknacker-Haus is is a unique shop that offers for sale quality German made nutcrackers and other goods including Cuckoo clocks. The shop owner was a very nice and helpful gentleman who offered good advice regarding the craftsmanship of the items for sale, as well as offering advice on buying authentic German goods outside of Cologne. Please don't go in expecting mass produced goods from Asia for a penny and a song. This is a shop for connoisseurs of traditional German items made in Germany. We took home a beautiful nutcracker that is displayed for our guests to enjoy. If you are looking for something unique to bring home from Cologne, we recommend having a look here.
