I had the privilege to study Spanish with Hector a few years ago at another school. Hector is the most phenomenal Spanish teacher under whom I have ever studied (and I have had a few). He was patient, knowledgable and had an understanding of how to impart an understanding of the grammar and sentence construction in a way that no other teacher was able to do for me. I would not pass up an opportunity to study with him again!! He was also knowledgable about Nicaragua and taught me so much. Not to mention that he is just the most warm and lovely teacher .

Centro PUMA is a resource center where everyone, locals and otherwise, work together for conservation and education. Local tour guides run the library and classes for the community and welcome visits from tourists. Need information on where to go on the island? Want to book a tour, try your Spanish or help teach English, look through field guides or read a novel? We even have good coffee!
The centro Puma is a great place! I explored the place while I was in the spanish school in Altagracia and it was so much fun that i spent almost all my afternoons in the project. Jeff (the owner) is a super nice guy and you can do a lot of different stuff there. They have an organic garden. They make organic coffee and chocolate and they do a few different tours on the island. There is even a book exchange. But the best thing is that it's a place where you can easily connect with locals. There are always children around and two times per week is an english cafe where locals come to learn some english and you get to know more about the local life and culture while even improving in spanish. It was great and if you're interested in a local experience you definitely have to go there!
