Great place to visit, the history is amazing. Very touching to see how the poor Convicts had to live.

There was so much to see in the area we had to return a second day. Day 1 there was a display of Lighthorse Regiment equipment brought back from WW1 on private owned horses. The owners were dressed in uniforms from the WW1 period. We joined the free tour walked up the avenue into the barracks, into the Fortress and up to the Convoy Lookout. The second day we visited the ANZAC Centre and spent more time inspecting the gins and artefacts, returned to the Fortress and went back to the stunning views across King George Sound. What a fantastic location!

The Church of St John the Evangelist began construction in 1841, making it the oldest church in WA. It is built of shingles and locally quarried stone, which is extremely strong. It is framed by peppermint trees, which are native to the area. The church, hall, rectory and peppermint trees were placed on the register of the National Trust in 1978. St John's is an Anglican Church.

Old Farm, Strawberry Hill was considered old more than 100 years ago. As far back as 1890 it was given the name The Old Farm, in recognition of being the oldest farm in Western Australia, established even before the Swan River Colony.A Government Farm was established at Strawberry Hill in 1827 as part of the first European settlement at King George Sound.
The Old Farm at Strawberry Hill was established in 1827, even before the Swan River Colony was settled in 1829. It is in the Albany suburb of Mira Mar. The farmhouse dates from 1836; some visitors may feel that it is a bit cramped. Many of the artefacts belonged to the original owners. The National Trust administers the property; feel free to lock around or have a picnic. The sun can get warm in the afternoon.
