Attended the 20th vintage celebration dinner of the winery. What a fantastic experience. Murray and Pam such lovely people and producers of top class wine. Over indulged in the wine and food and woke up today without a headache. Russell Blaikie and his team prepared food for the flight of Riesling tastings and the spire and it was better than delicious. It’s hard to imagine how good the cheese toastie, the tomatoes on toast and the beetroot sausage roll was without being there. Russell Blaikie what a delight to meet and to talk about the fabulous paella he cooked for the spire. Oranje tractor is a delight to visit.

Wilson Brewing Company is a family owned and operated craft brewery, located in beautiful Albany, western Australia. Using the freshest local and Australian produce to hand craft and alternative to mass produced commercial beer. Wilson Brewing Company offers five core beers, along with monthly seasonal beer releases.
My husband organised a catch up with friends at Wilson’s brewing company. Located in a shed with a beautiful wood fire, pool tables and their brewery cat- Barley, this felt homey, welcoming and warm. Both males had a paddle, and enjoyed the beer immensely, food was delicious and great value for money. Purchasing cartons here was significantly cheaper than from chain liquor stores, and we happily bought a few to help support this amazing business. If you’re looking for a low key brewery with all of the deliciousness (food and beverage)- you’ve found the place to visit.

Great Southern Distilling Company was founded in 2004 and is the very first distillery to legally make Single Malt Whisky in Western Australia. Today the flagship brand Limeburners is an internationally-acclaimed Australian whisky. In 2017 and again in 2020 Limeburners was honoured by the American Distilling Institute as the World’s Best International Craft Whisky. A bottle of Limeburners is also on display at the WA Museum in Perth, as an example of a WA brand that is recognised as one of the best in the world. The Limeburners distillery is located on the edge of Princess Royal Harbour in Albany. Its cellar door is open for tastings of Limeburners Whisky as well as sister brands spirits. Distillery tours, casual lunches and gin blending classes are also available. Please note hours may vary on public holidays.
When our guide Lauren began the Distillery tour being able to see our the magic happens the process it takes to get the mix to the point of the bottle was fascinating. We had a good tour & good taste session. Thanks to all the team at lime burners .

A true farmers market in that its only traders are farmers from the Great Southern region who bring their seasonal local and fresh produce to market this week. Every food group is covered, including farmed meats, seafood and dairy enabling you to shop for all your fresh food needs for every meal! Seasonality (and weather) dictate how many traders are in the market any week but even through winter the market is still able to offer a great range of vegetables, fruits, meats and dairy. It is only a fresh food market with some farmers value adding their own grown produce. Consequently its size is small when compared to large city markets, but its point of difference is that everything offered is local, fresh and in season. Quantities of produce and varietal choice is very large, often many lines available that cannot be bought in main stream outlets Art, craft and nick knacks are not part of the market mix, only fresh Great Southern grown or reared food! Experience being a local!
We visited the Albany Farmers Market in the July school holidays and while there weren’t as many stalls as I was expecting I found everything I needed. I was looking in particular for local lamb and vegetables to roast as well as fresh bread, fruit and cheese. There were two bakers stalls and both produced amazing loaves and Turkish bread - the best I’ve had. The cheese makers stall had many varieties I hadn’t tried before as well as feta, halloumi, pecorino, Camembert etc - always good to try something new. Prices were reasonable for the quality and uniqueness of the produce and there were fruit and veg bargains for in season and unusual varieties.
