Alaska is divided into five regions: far north, interior, southwest, south central, and inside passage. Although it takes a long time to see the entire state, you can travel through the regions by boat, car, bus, or plane. Hike through the mountains, or venture out on a deep sea fishing or whale watching excursion. Get in touch with nature by camping in the wilderness, or experience your preferred degree of class and luxury in the beautiful, active cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks.

While researching travel in Alaska, and getting frustrated with trying to make arrangements on my own, I came across Viking's website. What a relief to find a company that would work with me to plan a trip to places I wanted to see! Melanie was very helpful, and patient as we tweaked our plans. She was sensitive to our budget concerns, and even though we planned the trip only two months in advance, she was able to find accommodations in each of the places we wanted to see. Travel connections were seamless. At each stop we were met by the driver who would transport us onward. The hotels were all very nice--some very quaint, others rather ordinary, but all were clean and well-kept. Our trip started in Bellingham, WA and included the Alaska Marine HIghway ferry, flights to Gustavus and Skagway, train and bus to Whitehorse (Yukon) private van to Dawson City and on to Fairbanks, train to Denali, bus to Seward, and back to Anchorage. Wow! What a trip, and NO glitches during our travel. I especially appreciate Melanie's extra effort in re-issuing our vouchers when the USPS lost the originals. I highly recommend this company--and have already passed their information on to friends and family who are thinking of going to Alaska.

Fantastic day trip from Homer to Seldovia. The Ferry was great. People were friendly, boarding was seamless, ride was smooth and the times were extremely convenient. I booked everything online well ahead of time which was easy. We had a bit of trouble finding the exact loading spot, but after the fact, I realized the day before our departure, I got an email (went to my spam) that outlined everything in detail and addressed any question you might have.Definitely worth it and looking forward to using the Ferry again. (I will say, there was no social distancing and people weren't wearing masks, but they're total cases since the beginning of the pandemic have totaled less than 600 to date. It seems like spread here is very low for whatever reason (of course a break out an happen at any time so it's important not to get complacent). It's hard to balance supporting the great businesses that bring in tourist dollars, and protecting the communities.

On our 2 week Rv trip through Alaska I planned on the extra expense of putting the Rv on the ferry from Valdez to Whittier. Since we were not taking a cruise through Alaska I thought this would a great alternative since we would be seeing more of the interior. Book well in advance through the Alaska Marine Highway System. It was around 7 1/5 hours long and the boat we took was the Aurora. We arrived at the dock @5:30 and the entire process was easy and organized. We pulled right up to the drive up window, they checked our paperwork and the woman who took our info automatically turned the propane off for us. We got in line and waited to load. At this time I suggest having someone in your party walk on the ferry as soon as your able to and find your spot on the boat. I would recommend the right hand side on the outside deck called the "heated solarium". Grab your lounge chairs and claim your spot! It was foggy in the morning and some of the chairs were wet. Maybe a bring a small towel to wipe off but this was the spot to be. One of my boys had the breakfast on board and it was really good. All the food looked really good but we packed our lunch and snacks. The ferry ride through the prince william sound was stunning and I took way too many pictures!
