The so called marble cathedral and marble caves was the most memorable area we saw in Chile. We were in Chile the whole 2019 and visited every one of their regions. We went to the Atacama desert and the town of San Pedro de Atacama. We went to the Torres del Paine area. But the General Carrera Lake was the highlight of the year. We went to Puerto Rio Tranquilo and took a "full day" boat ride that took us to the marble cabinets area and then to the marble chapel, marble caves and to the marble cathedral. Here are a few photos.

A wet and fast boat trip to the caves followed by a gentle tour in an out of the caves. A lot of explanation but all in Spanish but the main point is what you see. The longer trip is probably worth the extra cash for a more relaxed time in the caves.

La Pancha Ecotourism is located in the southern Chilean Patagonia, seven kilometers away from Puerto Aysen. It's at the foot of the snowy canyon from which originates several water springs that nourish Los Palos river. We offer excursions, horseback riding and kayaking.La Pancha Ecotourism is an ideal spot for those who are looking for tranquility and a deep connection with the Chilean Patagonia.
We had one of our favorite tours ever with Ecoturismo la Pancha! It was a bit last minute, but we wanted a kayaking adventure in Patagonia while we were in Puerto Chacabuco and so happy we came across this one! It’s a family owned business that really cares about giving a unique experience. We had two children (ages 4 & 6 years old) and they set us up with double kayaks! The weather was typical Patagonia weather (rainy, sunny, cold, warm!) and the setting was absolutely gorgeous on the lake and river. Half way through, we went to the mangroves in the river to enjoy a snack and matte- what fun!! Then back to the grounds where we were greeted with a warm cozy fire and delicious array of fresh made Chilean snacks and hot chocolate. Even fresh salmon ceviche!! Yum!!! The family is so nice, the setting beautiful and experience is truly one of a kind!! Highly highly recommend!!!

In our 3 weeks hiking around Chilean Patagonia the Los Piedras hike to the top of Cerro Cinchao was our favorite hike. We started at the parking lot for Mirador Laguna Verde (you can drive there--you need to stop and pay admission to the park). From the Laguna Verde parking lot the trail was well marked. Follow the Los Piedras sign when you come to it about half a mile in to the hike. The trail ascends about 2,000 feet. There are several different and interesting forests you pass through on the way up. And there are ocassional views across the valley. But the real payoff comes when you get to the top. The summit is above the treeline, and presents 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains. Spectacular. It took four fit 60 year olds a bit less than 3 hours to get to the top. Much less to get down. And we lingered at the top for most of an hour. We did not do the full loop. We got to the top of the mountain and then descended back the way we came. That looked shorter than completing the loop. And we had already gotten the best views of the trail.

The hotel is run by the fame US company that also runs the catamaran that takes you to the San Rafael glacier. Customer service was perfect. Food was great. Rooms spacious and spotless. We stayed two nights. We arrived around 6pm, had diner in the bar area (we skipped the buffet). The food was good. The next day we first had a great breakfast and at 7am the tour to the glacier started. In the catamaran they again gave us breakfast and, later, lunch. The trip to the glacier takes about 5 hours. Then, 2 hours at the glacier where they take you in small zodiac boats close to the glacier. We saw a leopard seal lounging on a small iceberg about 15 feet from us. On the way back they give you whiskey with ice from the glacier and diner. Overall, excellent.
