There are several cafés, bars and restaurants on Aegiali's so-called 'Sunset Strip', especially popular - as the name suggests - in the evening hours. One of them, in the lower part, is the 'Maestro', which at Tripadvisor has an entry not only under 'Things To Do', but also under 'Restaurants'. As with most others one sits under an awning made from beams and reed. At the terrace's outer edge is a row of bar stools, facing the sea, while further back are wooden tables with classical Greek coffeehouse chairs. When I visited after a dinner elsewhere, pleasant jazz music was playing in the background. First a glass of water and a menu card was brought, handwritten in a school notebook. I went for a Greek coffee 'metrio', which was nicely poured into the cup from a 'briki' at my place. With it I had - most typical for Amorgos - a 'Psimmeni Raki', a spirit, which for once was served cool with an ice cube in it.

IRIS yoga&massage studio is located right on the central beach of Aigiali, Amorgos. Close to the harbour and the village of Aigiali. There are several retreats, seminars and workshops taking place during the year from April to October. Drop-in classes of Yoga most of the year and during the summer also in Meditation, Dance, Pilates, Sea Movements and other. Individual Sessions of Massage, Reiki and more. Karin is the manager of the IRIS studio and she gives Yoga classes with a special touch to Hatha Yoga springing from awareness, embodyment and an organic alignment philosophy. Karin is also meditation teacher, solutionfocused coach and massage therapist. The IRIS studio does also offer its facilities to groups that wish to run retreats or seminars on the island.
Imagine yourself practise yoga while listening to the calming sound of waves rolling in towards land. From the open window with transparent curtains slowly moving in the wind, comes a light breeze. You can hear birds sing outside and a dog bark somewhere in the distance. All, while the experienced teacher thoroughly guides you through the class. Amorgos is a fantastic island in itself and the possibility to combine your holiday with yoga and retreats at Iris Studio is a wonderful opportunity. I have taken part in both “drop-in” yoga classes and a retreat. Both suitable to beginners, as well as to more experienced participants. The retreat I took part in, was a four day long yoga retreat and some parts of it took Place outdoors. (F.ex we did morning yoga as the sun rose and a meditation on the beach in the sunset.) Apart from yoga we also did other exercises. Iris Studio holds different kinds of retreats and I highly recommend you to join one. The yoga classes here are effective and after each lesson I felt strengthen and relaxed. Karin (my teacher and also the owner) guides and pays attention to every participant. It’s obvious she is a well experienced teacher. Iris Studios always makes my holiday on Amorgos perfect and complete. I highly recommend it.

On the north side of Aegiali Bay are three small beaches, which are connected with each other by the official footpath No4. It is a beautiful walk, which can be started in Aegiali port. From there one walks along the long Gialos Beach for about 20 minutes until its end, called Fokiotripa (Seal's Cave, but no seals there anymore). Here one goes up a path, just to branch off to the left soon after. With wind and big waves the last part of Gialos beach has to be done barefoot or one risks to have wet shoes. In that case it is preferable to go along the parallel tarred road. The first beach one gets to is Levrossos. Above it is a parking lot, but to reach the beach one has to go down several stairs in a built up area, with a tavern, apartments and the Petradi Beach Bar, which rents out some umbrellas and sunbeds, but not by the beach directly, which is not organized. For shade there are a few tamarisk trees. Levrossos Beach is sandy throughout and it can get crowded. Further west come Psili Ammos Beach and Chochlakas Beach, which are completely undeveloped and offer almost no shade. Although a few will swim naked already at Levrossos, nudist usually prefer the other two beaches, where they are the majority. Psili Ammos has some sand on its eastern side, mostly pebbles to the west, while Chochlakas has a not always easy access into the water due to rocky ground. In season there is a water taxi service to the first two beaches. When there last September a strong northern wind came up (Beaufort 8) with all ships staying in the harbour. Swimming was impossible at the beaches of Gialos, Psili Ammos and Chochlakas, but if one didn't go too far out one could swim at Levrossos, which is the most protected of them all. It would be different though with a southern wind.
