Mount Nemrut

This was my second visit ti Nemrut Dag - I had visited to see the sunrise in 2009, but I wanted to see the sunset too! Firstly, however hot it is during the day, it gets very cool on the mountain in the evening, so be prepared. I think that there were many more people on the site in the evening visit than the morning visit If you particularly want to photograph the monuments, the morning may be the better bet. My only disappointment was that the famous Lion Horoscope relief has still not been restored. I should say that the roads up to the site have been vastly improved on 2009.

Severan Bridge

Coming from Kahta this bridge would probably be your second stop after Karakus Tumulus. The bridge is impressive in size and well restored. Of the four pillars, two at either end, three remain having ancient inscriptions. If the weather is good and you are enroute to Nemrut Dagi plan some time to have a swim in the relatively fast flowing waters of the river the bridge crosses.

If you're already in Adiyaman, you may as well go. Nothing too amazing or spectacular, unless you really like looking at pots and coins, but the best part is you can pick up a free Adiyaman phamplet guide to Nemrut that was pretty interesting and informative for when you take the trek up the mountain.
