Abbotsbury Playground is maintained and insured by volunteers. A group of local people came together to form a group in 2006 working tirelessly hard to turn a field into the beautiful playground it is today. The playground was made possible through the kind donations of the community, Chesil Bank Parish Council, Dorset Community Action (Kris Hallett) Awards for all, Co operative Community Fund, The Big Lottery Community Spaces Grant and the hard work of its committee members who successfully applied for these grants. We have volunteers who cut the grass, empty the bins and ensure the playground is perfect! We have visitors who also visit, play and keep the playground tidy and we would like to thank you all for this! Please feel free to leave us a review, we'd love to hear your thoughts on your trip!

gallery and tea shop Open 10 to 5.30 everyday of the week
We were driving from Gunnislake to Salisbury along the Jurassic Coast when I randomly decided to stop in Abbotsbury because of the Swannery. In the end we couldn't justify £25 to visit the Swannery for just an hour, but we loved the look of the village and decided to park and wander around. Then we came upon the Gallery. Wow. I absolutely love all of the woodwork in the gallery. I think my husband is very happy we don't live in England, because I would fill my house with things from here. Thankfully Australia now lets us bring in wood products (as long as there is no bark or infestation). It was an absolute delight wandering through the gallery and seeing the talent of wood craftsmen from all over England. And the staff were lovely, answering questions and helping to pack things safely for our journey home. We enjoyed reading about the craftsmen and wood and techniques while sipping tea in the small cafe at the back as well. An unexpected find. I hope your gallery continues to flourish and provide visitors with wonderful examples of English craftsmanship.

A 6 mile rewarding South West Coast Path walk through 5000 years of history, including travelling above the coastline along the South Dorset Ridgeway, a Stone Age route peppered with archaeological remains. Below, St Peter's Abbey was a fifth century holy site. Subtropical gardens, a swannery and a fourteenth century chapel add to the many charms of the picturesque village of Abbotsbury.

As we live in Weymouth, this was on our list to visit, beautiful walks through Abbotsbury village then up to the chapel and down the other side to chesil beach, stunning view of the fleet, highly recommended.
