Green pool, leaking fridge, curdled milk, no towels - hostile management
Reviewed By 138carlywThe hospital put my mother up in this motel for a post-surgery stay. To care for her I paid and stayed with my two young children in the next room over. The pool was green and closed, yet no discount on the room was given despite not providing the amenities advertised. The rooms were clean, but very VERY run down. The kitchen floor and carpet in my mothers room was soaked from the fridge leaking, causing a slipping hazard. Management did not provide her towels despite me specifically asking if there were towels in her room at check in, so we could not clean this up ourselves. Management did mop immediately once made aware of the leak, but did not repair the fridge and still did not provide my mother any towels. The dining table chairs were broken in my room. The blades on the fan they provide broke off 2mins after being turned on rendering it useless. The beds were OK but the rooms are uncomfortably hot! We later found the milk pottles in my mothers fridge had curdled due to the fridge issues. Management shrugged their shoulders and told us a previous tenant must have muddled with the thermostat. We mentioned room checks being their responsibility (when we arrived our rooms were not locked, so presume the rooms had not been checked over after the cleaners left) and this is when management became hostile... said they would refund us and we could go somewhere else if we were not happy! We were not happy but at 7:30pm, 5 hours away from home with a post surgery check the next day, on waitangi weekend - unfortunately - we had no choice but to continue on with our subpar stay. We truly weren't expecting 5 star, wear and tear could have been overlooked for the price IF management weren't so dismissive of their failures to provide the basics and safety to their customers.

The best place to stay in Whangarei, Cheviot Park Motor Lodge and Conference Center is situated in Whangarei, just 2 hour's drive from Auckland and less than 1 hour from the Bay of Islands. It is conveniently located on State Highway 1, only 1km from Whangarei city center, 650m from Whangarei Hospital and close to most sporting venues. All accommodation is on the ground floor with free secure parking outside the units. All of the Motel rooms are Air Conditioned and have MySky Guest Select 50+ with my sky enabled. We also have EV Chargers for Tesla and other Makes of Electric Vehicle.
Good customer service but dirty

My room was very dirty, there was hair on one towel, an eyelash on the soap so it hadn’t been cleaned, dust on top of the toilet holder and on every wall sill and crumbs in the kitchen. Our carpet was quite stained and felt damp. I didn’t feel at all clean. The customer service was lovely but it wasn’t worth $160 especially as the pool and hot tub was closed which wasn’t in the advertising. I do apologise I don’t leave bad reviews, maybe I just got a very old room but it was not an enjoyable stay ?

Great Location
Reviewed By fleetwoodmac1We stayed two nights in unit 1. This is an older, dated motel but clean and comfortable. Some units may get traffic noise but we were away from the road. Roomy units, comfortable bed, park at the door, wide screen tv, basic kitchen. Very handy to the basin and the new Hunterwasser museum. Also very convenient to Bank Street and its cafes and restaurants. We would strongly recommend Essence cafe and Whang Thai in Bank Street. Unlike many motels all units here HAVE air conditioning absolutely essential this time of year. This motel is value for many but dont expect five stars.

Superb accomodation

Resident Manager Stephanie, her husband David and on this occasion, their son Josh who recently joined the business, always give us a warm welcome. Lovely family who ensure your stay is perfect. We have stayed in a Studio Spa room and also Balcony Spa room, both are beautifully presented. Rooms are spotlessly clean, well equipped, quiet and very comfortable with nice finishing touches to add to French decor. The balcony Spa room was spacious and a home away from home, ideal for our 4 night stay. Bed was very comfortable, crisp white cotton sheets and beautiful bead spread with cushions. Corner spa bath and excellent shower overhead. Towels top quality. Balcony had table and chairs plus bench seating, cushions, great place to relax at end of the day. Location of motel is perfect for us. If required, reasonably priced, mini bar set up in fridge. We discovered nearby Bontanica Gardens, beautiful native trees giving shade to concrete walking paths though out the gardens, fern house, cactus house, rose gardens etc, perfect for a morning walk. Highly recommend Lodge Bordeaux, we would not stay anywhere else.

Clean, cozy and comfortable motel in a very convenient location
Reviewed By fandingoThanks to our lovely hosts for a very comfortable overnight stay. They have created a delightful accommodation for their guests, and we will return to Kensington motel again. Our room was spotless with heaps of space, warm and cozy with the heat pump and the location to the Quarry gardens and the town basin is perfect. Walking distance to delicious restaurants and cafes, a must stay in Whangarei, fantastic value!

Reviewed By 828claires828This motel had every thing we needed for a weeks stay. Quiet, clean and comfortable. Serviced daily. Hosts were friendly, and accommodating. full range of equipment for cooking is needed. Just a 20 minute walk to town centre.

Situated in a quiet residential area away from the main roads. Close to supermarkets, restaurants and a short 15 minute walk to the CBD. We offer free wifi and SKY Guest Select TV 55+ channels. Beautiful bush walks of Mt Parihaka and the Hatea river are just around the corner. Clean, comfortable, well priced and quiet.

Cleanliness and WiFi
Reviewed By 92berndeWell, due to the price of staying at Motel Six, I expect Spartan accommodations, no frills. What I do expect is a clean floor and not the smell of cigarette smoke and WiFi that is usable for business. The floor was rather dirty and walking bare footed (not recommended in any hotel) made the bottom of my feet very dirty. I took one of the white hand towels, made it wet and cleaned a portion of the floor, not a pretty sight. The towel was very soiled I am afraid to say. My first few hours in the room resulted in very teary and scratchy eyes. I am not sure if was from the smoke or the cleaning agents they used to sanitize the room. The next issue was the WiFi connection or should I say the speed. It was very slow taking many minutes to access a browser page, down load documents or photos, forget about viewing videos from YouTube or Netflix. I have an app that tells me the location of WiFi transmitters and the speed of down loads, uploads and ping times and they were terrible. I got download speed of 0.56 Mbps, upload speed or 0.58 Mbps and ping time of 53.28 ms. I questioned the front desk if there was something wrong with their internet service due to this and they said no, this is what Motel Six has ordered through their ISP. I told them that is not good for business. I was supposed to stay there for 4 nights but left after the second night and told them why, I could not do business on my computer with such slow Mbps. It took 2 hours to do some work that should have only taken about half an hour to do. Would I book with Motels Six again? Yes, most likely providing the Internet speed is up where it belongs, I definitely would check the speed before checking in. Regarding the floor, I can live with a dirty floor and just have to remember to bring cleaning supplies and do the floor myself. They lost $209.04 of business because of this and I had to pay and additional $50.00 per night for accommodations elsewhere.
