When thinking of Westland Tai Poutini National Park, one word should always come to mind: glacier. The speedy Fox and Franz Josef glaciers (both move up to 13 feet each day) are two popular sights and in some places, you can see the ice stretch back down to the sea. When you’re ready to get back to stable ground, walk around Lake Matheson (which also offers excellent birdwatching via kayak) to enjoy stunning views of Mount Cook.

We chose to stay at Te Weheka to break our journey from Wanaka to Nelson. It was a brief stay: late afternoon arrival and 0630 departure the next morning for a very wet journey home. It was a very good choice. The staff were helpful and obliging and the room very comfortable. The guest lounge was comfortable and well equipped. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the village centre. We will certainly be back.

This was our second time to visit Ribbonwood. The first was many years ago. We stayed in the separate cottage from the main house both times. It's a beautiful place, and so relaxing and private. I guess that's why we went there the second time, because we needed to relax. Jo and Julie met us when we arrived with big smiles. We didn't get to meet Julie the first time we stayed and so glad we got to meet her this time. They asked what we wanted for breakfast each day, and it felt like a huge choice of menu items. We were in shock honestly because we are both pure vegetarians and still the large choice was there. They made it fun each day with a different choice or the same item which had been made even yummier with extra ingredients. They really went out of their way to make our stay as nice as it could be. The garden by their home had matured and someone had definitely been working it. It was beautiful and I think I could have sat there just thinking all day. Inside the cabin we stayed were books and info on where to go and what to do, and Julie and Jo were always there ready to help as well. When it was time to leave it felt as though we were leaving a good friend's house. They really are such nice people.

Boutique B&B : This colonial homestead whispers history. Originally constructed from beautiful native timber in 1926, now tenderly refurbished staying true to the Arts & Crafts style of architecture. Start your day early with a panoramic view of the Franz Josef neve from the breakfast table. Go exploring at your own pace and come home to a glacial sunset, a glass of port in the guest lounge and a welcoming bed. Age restriction: children 12+ welcome.
A lovingly restored 1920's homestead hosted by Bernie and Gerard who are warm and friendly and dedicated to providing a genuine 5 star experience for their guests. The rooms were large and comfortable and the lounge area cozy with a blazing woodfire. The special touches including daily baking, cooked breakfasts with home baked bread, and a complimentary glass of port in the evening were a highlight. Their local knowledge both local and of the West Coast was instrumental in making our holiday fabulous. We would highly recommend this accommodation.

Ropatinis Homestay B&B is a superior quality, friendly Bed & Breakfast accommodation, set amongst a beautiful large garden in Fox Glacier, West Coast, New Zealand. We can provide garden studios (with ensuite) or rooms in the main house (with ensuite or share facilities). A generous continental breakfast is provided every morning, scrumptious home baking and we can also provide a delicious dinner on request. We are always happy to provide our guests with information.
My adult daughters and I had the opportunity to stay at Ropatinis recently. On arrival a plate was lovely fruit cake was delivered to our unit. We were in one unit which was roomy and very well appointed. The wooden furniture, made from local timber by Trish’s husband was very unique and suited the environment. The room was spotless. The beds were very comfortable with electric blankets on all 3 beds. Waking up hearing the lambs over the fence and eggs for breakfast being laid would be an experience so many people would never have the chance to experience. Breakfast was on another level. Not the ordinary continental! Of course fresh farm eggs! Wild meat cold meats. Home made bread. Trish joined us and an American family for breakfast and everyone enjoyed sharing travel stories and listening to suggestions from Trisha for local sights etc. After breakfast Teddy, the wee wonder dog, gave a lovely show of tricks for the American children. It was just a lovely time and a very homely experience. If you like a stay with a bit of that rustic rural feel then Ropatinis is tops. Thank you Trish. A delightful hostess with a great B and B

Located in the beautiful Arthurs Pass National Park, the Otira Stagecoach Hotel is a stunning 100 year old building just recently purchased and being lovingly restored to its original glory.
My family enjoyed our stay here. We had the four poster room with bunk beds and ensuite, all of which was clean and comfortable. I slept very well and had a lovely shower in the morning, what more can you ask for? The victorian/edwardian furntiure and fittings made for a unique experience and I enjoyed explaining to my children what all the old antiques displayed around the premises were used for. Lester was a friendly and obliging host, he even posted my son's forgotten headphone cable back to us with no charge. I would definitely recommend a stay here if you are open to something a little different from your average bland motel.
