Things to do in Hout Bay
I was walking near of the Harbour of Hout Bay, next to the new harbour market and there was a delicious smell of grilled lobster. That is how I discovered this very simple restaurant that opened a week ago. The lobster that they put on the braai (or barbecue) for me was perfect. And very cheap. It was served with a nice salad.

Even on a weekday evening this was a busy place with a convivial atmosphere - we were pleased we had booked a table. The menu is typically Italian and it offers both half and full portions. Only after our food had arrived did we realise why - the helpings are huge! I think they were really large enough for two people so quite a bit of our meal was wasted which was a pity as the food was very good. Unless you are a very good eater I suggest you opt for the smaller size portion!

"Where traditional Italian cuisine meets a contemporary twist"
Iâve been going to Papinoâs for years. Itâs always been nice, thatâs why I kept going back. The last experience was somehow disappointing. The menu has changed.About half of the selection from the menu was not available. (No starters, no soup, no pasta)Seafood pizza, but sorry - no prawns.Dessert... but no biscotti (used to be a favorite)The most disappointing part was that they no longer accept Diners or Amex. So I ended up paying with an overseas card. The food I had was nice, the waiters are polite. The owner was very kind and was really trying. I think if they can provide what they offer and improve the payment methods, it can be a really nice restaurant.I will be back!

We stopped here just for a coffee and ended up ordering an omelette, carrot cake and some wine. Nude little spot. Nice covered stoep. My omelette and my hubbies carrot cake were both great. Good selection of wines by the glass. Attentive service. Good prices. It's nothing unusual, but the basics are done very well! A pleasant surprise and we'd go back for another meal.

This cosy, unpretentious coastal spot will leave you smiling, your taste buds singing and your soul rejuvenated. A classic menu put together by someone who clearly has a passion for wholesome and flavorful Italian cuisine. Tuck yourself and your significant other inside for a lightly romantic evening or hang out on the deck with friends and family while sipping away on some delicious wine as the sun sets over the bay. No matter what, the awesome staff will make you feel special and the food will have you wanting to come back for more.

Voted BEST PIZZA IN AFRICA by 50TopPizza. Open every day of the week for lunch & dinner. We make amazing pizza plus daily specials, using only the best, mainly locally sourced ingredients, and the owners are always present to ensure quality & consistency.
The pizza was good. I like a thin base. But is it better or the best in Cape Town? I doubt it. They benefitted from good publicity and I imagine many of the five star reviews are influenced by that. If you go, enjoy the pizza but keep off the starters or what they call Italian tapas because they are very unItalian and are characterised by heavy coverings of melted tasteless cheese. I notice the owner specialises in aggressive emotional responses to any review he doesn't like. That is not a good look so let me me remind him that pride comes before the fall and he should just accept good faith reviews whether they are good, bad or just average.Hi Yendy, thanks for your review. We have actually been voted Best Pizzeria in Africa, but i guess it is question of personal preference.I just want to clarify that out of 20 spuntini starters, only 3 are 'covered with melted cheese':- the melanzane parmigiana, - the Bomba: (morsel of artisan chorizo, soft focaccia, roasted garlic & mozzarella)- the Furia: oven baked caciocavallo cheese with oregano. A cheese lover's dreamin all of them we use proper artisan cheeses made by Puglia cheese in Cape TownWe have been operating since 2009 and have been appreciated long before this award was bestowed upon us.
