The Zimbabwean team running this establishment are just so lovely, smiley, well-spoken and welcoming I had to make special comment. We settled into the really comfortable chairs ( worthy of a note too, as quite often restaurants buy good looking uncomfortable chairs), and started salivating over the menu. It was difficult to choose, but for starters we ended up with a broccoli and feta soufflé and a Tom Yam Soup, both bursting full of flavours. The soufflé came with a beetroot and celery tartare, very nice on its own, but we thought it overpowered the more delicate flavours of the soufflé. For mains, sea bass and pork belly; we judged the crispy sea bass on its bed of Parmesan gnocchi with charred sweet corn to be the better dish, the pork was a bit dry and therefore tough, possibly it had been waiting too long in a heated state before serving? The portions were good, but (surprisingly for us) we both had room for dessert; rose petal parfait with granola hazelnut ice cream and a large slice of chocolate torte with caramelized banana, (yummy, could have just had that on its own!), which, in the end I couldnât finish mostly because the torte was quite sweet. We took our own bottle of wine ( Springfield Work of Time 2010) and paid the R50 corkage, the wine list was full of local wines, reasonably priced. Service was good and not obtrusive, and the gentle Zimbabwean music playing in the background was very conducive to a relaxing evening.

A visit to this restaurant was again one of the highlights of our stay in South Africa. Definitely the best meal in the region with calm, friendly, efficient and professional service. The food was nothing short of outstanding and we were greeted as friends notwithstanding we only visit once a year! We ate on the stoop deck on a warm November evening enjoying the food, the excellent wine from the vineyard and the sun setting over the distant hills - a memorable evening.

We went to Bourbon Street Social on a cold, windy, rainy night over a long weekend and were accommodated at a nice table upstairs, with a great roaring fire downstairs. The place was warm and comfortable.I had the prawns, and was very impressed. They were delicious. We then left out jersey's there and when I phoned 2 days later, they had been found and were being kept for us so I can arrange a courier to get them back to us in Johannesburg.
