Cape Town's quirkiest intimate dinner theatre nestled inside the old Dutch Reformed church in Kalk Bay. The restaurant is filled with personality, serving excellent pre-show dinners and the theatre boasts world class cabaret, music and comedy shows. Kalk
Our second visit to this delightful theatre that once was a church. The architect who designed the conversion got it spot on. Intimate stage setting (holds c.80) and you are very close to the actors. This time we were treated to âBijouâ, a crazy comedy that had you dissolved in laughter the whole way thruâ! How they think up this stuff I just donât know ..save to say it was a mix of brilliantly funny acts interspersed with some great songs and mesmeric dancing. The whole show was flawlessly performed ..great audience too that the cast must have appreciated. We bought a package to include dinner beforehand (upstairs above the stage) ..the fayre and service is of high quality. We had a fabulous evening and canât wait to go again when next in the area.

Having read the very good reviews for this restaurant, myself and a group of 5 friends had dinner here on a Saturday evening. As the prices were what one would expect to pay in an upmarket restaurant, our expectations were high. The maitre d raved about the mussel starter - which we all had. It reminded me of those frozen crumbed mussels one finds in the freezer section of any supermarket. We complained that they were greasy and the only comment we got was "I'll tell chef. It was not mentioned again. The kingklip at R180 wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. There didn't seem to be any effort at presentation and as the plate was rather small the food was just unceremoniously plonked on it. I got the distinct impression that this was an amateur cook rather than a trained chef. The dessert was nice but certainly not fine dining.I would not rush back to this restaurant . R700 per couple excluding wine

We went here on a Wednesday evening and the place was rather quiet. We decided to give it s try anyway - uncertain which door to enter we found out you may use both doors. The service was good, we were given a complimentary lentil soup and had the place almost to ourselves. I had a curry, which was ok. I was just disappointed to find out that the rice was not included in the price but R25 extra, without warning from the waiter. It made my curry more expensive than my husbands' steak, which was ok. The decor is a "Kalk Bay meets India / Pakistan" with Indian music, rustic chairs and pillows with nautical prints. So is the menu, as you can have Indian as well as seafood and steak. We paid just under R500 for our meals and a few drinks each, including some craft beer.
