We stopped here on the first night of a weekend stay for a later night drink and bite to eat. Although the visit started promising, it ended rough, complete with a disappearing bartender who was more concerned with his vacation the next day than his customers. As an FYI, this place is attached to the Embassy Suites hotel. We did notice that it closed at 11 p.m. on a Friday, which seemed a bit early, but no big deal, we thought...but when we brought it up, he was very rude about it...as we found out, because he had no intention of staying past 10:30!That should have been our first warning. The second was when my wife ordered a drink, and then asked for a maraschino cherry...the bartender immediately said "no, we're all out", as we're looking at a bowl full of recently stocked cherries. That seems very minor, and it was, but it definitely was an indicator of the service. As 11 was approaching, we decided we would want a drink and a salad to take up to our room (we wanted to have it there, but didn't want to "inconvenience" the bartender). We ordered at about 10. So he charged us for the drinks and the salad, and we paid. And he waited. And he was no where to be found. And we waited for another half hour. No food, no bartender. So, finally we went up to the restaurant manager and mentioned something. To his credit, he immediately looked into it. He came back and profusely apologized that the bartender that left never put in the order, even though we had paid for it! So, the manager immediately had one made for us, and comped the salad on our bill; definitely the right think to do, and definitely much appreciated. So we brought our cobb salad and drinks up to our room, open up the salad, and both remarked that the smell seemed a bit odd. I took one bite, and just about gagged. The avocado was brown and slimy, and tainted the whole salad; it went right into the garbage. We would have taken it right back downstairs to the manager, but since it was comped anyway, we just wrote it off. Needless to say, we didn't return the rest of the weekend.

I've been eating Anchor pizza since I was a boy and it has stayed true for many years. The pizza has always been very good. The boneless wings are also the best I've had in town. I also enjoy the Squeak sandwiches, nothing else like them in town. It's a great little old school restaurant on the outskirts of town if you want to avoid the Charleston scene. I recommend.

Been ordering from Bears Den for several years. I only remember one time we had a problem with our delivery order, they are on top of the order and promp with their deliveries. They have one of the best Club Sandwiches I've ever eaten and their chili in my opinion the best in Charleston. The funnny thing about their chili is that it's never exactly the same but always great.

We went for appetizers one evening after a late lunch. Supposedly, their burgers are very good, but we had burgers for lunch that day, so we went with appetizers, which was the only thing else that they offer. Everything was greasy, fried, and pulled frozen, straight from a bag. Everything was so bad, we couldnât eat any of it. The waitress picked it all back up when she left the check and pretended not to notice that we hadnât eaten more than 20% of it. Maybe the burgers are better, but we wonât be back to find out.

Conveniently located in Charleston, West Virginia, Sam's Uptown Cafe has called 28 Capitol Street home for 20 years! It is no doubt as to why it is one of the city's favorite landmarks. Stop by and try one of the MANY beers- tapped, bottled, or canned, en
I read reviews saying this place offers the best burgers in Charleston. My wife was in Charleston to attend a meeting, I tagged along. I was scouting places to eat while she was busy. I stopped by Sam's to check it out. It is such a dump I almost did not go in, but the reviews demanded it. Knowing I didn't have time to eat that day, I just wanted to check it out. It was almost as dumpy on the inside as the outside. The next day I went in to eat. Sat at the dumpy, well used bar. I ordered a beer and a cheese burger with lettuce, tomato and mayo. It came with chips. I ate it. Now I cannot add my vote as to it being the best burger in Charleston (inasmuch as this is the only burger I have had there), but it was very daggone good and I will go back for another someday. Sam's gets my vote as an excellent place for a solid lunch.

Sports Bar & Grille open 365 days a year 11am until at least midnight with a full menu. Located in the heart of downtown Charleston, WV. Full catering available.
Don't go here. The service is horrible. Can you say "stiff the waitress?" Five of us arrived. We waited for a waitress to arrive. Waited and waited some more. She took our drink order and promptly brought water without drinks. The table next to us was in the same situation. She returned with their drinks. And still, we were without drinks or service. Heard enough. We gave up. There were plenty of empty tables to be seen. I complained to the manager on duty. He said, "We're busy." We were both looking at the same empty tables. Was our waitress dumb or incompetent? I daresay we were afraid to try the mettle of the kitchen if the front of the house was so terrible. I would not think to make a review of this place but it was so bad I feel compelled to write something. Eater beware!

Took forever to get someone to take our order but it appeared there was only one server. Once she got to our table, she was very responsive and good. The Lavender Martini was really good and creatively presented (see the attached picture). The Manhattan wasnât the best. First, they didnât add the staple maraschino cherry so I had to take it back to the bar for one so it was a true Manhattan. The food was good for most, I thought it was so-so. The atmosphere is really cool and if we were here at a different time of day, the atmosphere would have been so much better. And for the men, hopefully you donât need to âdrop a deuceâ because they only have urinals in the menâs room. Oh, and donât come between 2:30 and 3:00 because they switch menus from brunch to lunch and only serve appetizers.

The block has an excellent wine selection, and is in a great location. During the summer, the outside patio is very nice. However, the service was extremely slow, my appetizer arrived with the meal. And the food was mediocre, seemed like the raw ingredients came from Walmart.
