Things to do in Buckhannon
A workmate told me of a little place that I should look at for a dinner over the weekend. I was impressed enough with the visit to write a review and put them on Trip Advisor.Buckhannon is a quaint little town in WV with an art and music scene and a fairly good selection of restaurants. However one of the best ones is not located downtown where the others congregate, but just down the road about 8 blocks at the corner of S. Florida and College. When you pull up, you think you aren't at a restaurant at all. The appearance is that of a house or maybe a small retail establishment. As the saying goes, "don't judge a book by its cover".A few tips. The menu changes, DAILY, so check the Facebook page (their only social media or web presence as of this review). The owner has an eclectic range Greek, Chinese, Thai, Italian, etc. Therefore make sure what is being served on the night you go so you are getting what you desire. I have a feeling you can't go wrong any night. Second, this is a dry restaurant but allows BYOB, so keep that in mind. (If traveling - WV is an odd state for alcohol - the CVS and Rite Aid downtown have an ample liquor and wine selection with chilled bottles so stop there if you imbibe before going.) Third, reservations are not required, but recommended. Lastly, when you sit and if you are in the mood, there is a selection of board games which you can break out and play at the restaurant while you wait for your food. Not for every date, but a novel touch.Decor: The restaurant is a shotgun building, when you enter you see straight back into the kitchen. There is no A/C, but high ceilings, in the summer best after 7pm on hot days. The feel is a restaurant placed in a shop - there are shelves on both sides with books, crafts, and homemade relishes, etc. Even a CBD selection. Very quaint and cozy.Service: It appeared this is a family operation with the owner's children helping with busing and serving. All very polite and professional. In fact compared to some of the other restaurants in town, on par with the best and above most. We never wanted for anything, and were left alone to converse but when done the plates were quickly removed. Just the right touch. Food: The whole reason, right? Let me say I am well traveled, look at my profile and you will see I have been and eaten at many great cities in the world. That said, my meal was one of the best Chinese meals I have had and definitely the best in Buckhannon. We had Spring Rolls, Crab Rangoon, Hunan Chicken, and Cashew Shrimp. The rolls were wrapped in crispy rice paper and had fresh vegetables. The crab was fresh, the wonton crisp and both had a fresh orange, carrot and red pepper sauce for dipping. The entrees had fresh vegetables with just the right bite of firmness, properly cooked proteins, and the freshest and lightest sauces encountered since Hsu's Restaurant in Atlanta (the only Chinese restaurant I've been which serves Bananas Foster for dessert - tableside). So many times chefs tend to over-sauce Chinese food.. they are heavy, too sugary, or overly spiced to cover up the food. This chef's sauces were divine. Light, great spice level, and not overly clingy to the food. Truly made the dish.I can't speak to dessert here as we were full from the appetizers and entrees. However, if you are looking for a great meal you have to try this restaurant. I know we will be back!
Top 10 American food in Buckhannon, West Virginia, United States
We were looking for some Chinese food for a late lunch and decided to try this place. They offer a buffet every day and several locals seemed to be regulars. The food was the usual fare and prepared pretty well. We didn't get there until around 1 p.m. so the selections were a little thin. I think that if you go during normal lunch hours it would be much better. Not bad though.
Where to eat Italian food in Buckhannon: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Bare bones Chinese operation in downtown buckhannon. We got takeout though they offer buffet as it was our first chance to use them. Friendly and understandable Chinese staff. Decor is very minimal. Spicy food could have been spicier and skip the skimpy egg rolls. Would go back again instead of driving 25 miles to Elkins for Chinese.
