Midday stop over to visit this historical City on or return journey to the UK. This restaurant is perfectly situated in the centre of the city with all the attractions close by. A couple of our group have been here before and recommended it. Their high praise was fully justified. Good selection of great quality food, efficient and friendly staff, comfortable environment and all at very reasonable prices. If I am ever in this region again anytime soon I would not look anywhere else to eat..

Our Brasserie is closed on Monday and Wednesday. We gladly make an exception for group reservations.
Having seen the number of excellent and very good reviews on Trip Advisor and read several of the comments, we decided to try the Brasserie for an evening meal on a trip with friends this weekend. We were particularly interested in the history of the location, especially the "Wipers Times", being printers ourselves. We personally visited the Brasserie on the Saturday afternoon to look at the menu and book a table, it looked very nice. We booked a table for 9 people, for straight after the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate. A polite young man took our booking and completed a booking form, writing an arrival time of 8 - 8.20pm on it. We were looking forward to our meal that evening, even though a member if staff at the hotel we were staying at told us that only small/light meals would be available there. We had seen the menu briefly and it looked fine to us. After quite a short last post ceremony, we were about to head off the restaurant at 8.15pm, when 2 members of our party said that they had seen a lady turn off all the lights in the restaurant, lock the doors and jump in a car about 5 minutes before! We were understandably surprised and worried by this and went to check, just in case the staff had popped out and gone back again before we arrived. But no - we found it all in darkness and locked up, with no sign of what was happening! Shocked, we then had to wander around the streets and back to the market place trying to find somewhere suitable to eat. We tried several restaurants, who could not fit us in, as we had not booked beforehand. Eventually, our evening was saved by a kind waiter at Old Tom's, who gave us a table, even though we only had 5 minutes to choose from the menu as the kitchen was about to close. We had a lovely meal there, but were unable to have more drinks or sweets due to the time the restaurant was closing. We are very disappointed at our treatment by the brasserie, some of our party were elderly and would have preferred not to have had to walk all around the streets looking for somewhere to eat! We realise there could have been a qenuine emergency, but at the least they could have left a note on the locked doors to explain! How many other customers were left disappointed that evening? Or possibly we were the only ones booked in and it wasn't worth them staying open for us!? We have always found great warmth and hospitality from the restaurants in Ypres, that this has left us shocked and very disappointed! Dear Customers,We are deeply sorry to have disappointed you. There was an emercency that took place that made me close the brasserie.Even more, I wrongly must have thought your booking was to take place before the Last Post ceremony, as most people do. As you didn't show up, I thought, I didn't take the time to put an note on the door. Please apologise me for that. Hopefully I will be able to make it up to you in the future. If you come around again, the aperitive and the coffee will be on the house.Best regards and wish you all the best for a happy 2019.Caroline.

Would love to have tasted their offerings but after waiting nearly 15 minutes on the patio and being ignored by passing wait staff, we left. It wasn't busy and some of the wait staff were merely clearing tables. I'd heard good things about the place but not an impressive first impression.

Cozy restaurant in the centre of Passendale.
The food looked good but it took an age for the staff to come to us to take our order. The place was about three quarter full ( seemed mainly locals judging by the car number plates in the car park ) and the people on the next table gave up waiting eventually. I agree with the other reviewer about the attitude of the sole waitress. In the end we gave up on the food and just ordered drinks - we were asked to vacate the table and go outside in the uncovered beer garden. We have been coming to this region for the last 10 years and have been stopping for lunch in Passendale on each trip but we won't be returning to this establishment.

We used the Saint Arnoldus bar several times during our short trip to Ypres either for a drink after watching the âLast Postâ ceremony at the Menin Gate and also on another occasion for a quick snack. The bar is about midway between the market square and the Menin Gate and on entering the visitor finds themselves in a long bar area stretching back to an open garden area at the rear. The bar has a very good selection of beers on tap and I tried the âWipers x14â Belgian beer which was quite refreshing. The bar area had a good âvibeâ about it and was being used by both British tourists and also what appeared to be locals which is always a good sign. Looking for a snack one afternoon we also sampled the toasties on offer here and found these to be both tasty and satisfying.Would most certainly visit here again if we were in the area and recommend it to others.

This is a small bar-restaurant run by Johan Vanderwalle and his wife and is a great stop-off after walking the length of Polygon Wood from the Australian 5th Division Memorial. The beer is cold and a pate salad lunch is great value and a real treat. Johan has also many relics of the First World War with a special emphasis on things Australian. And when you're there, give him a "gidday" for Aussie.

A small bar/tavern right near Polygon Wood. The owner is extremely passionate about military history and has a fantastic collection of memorabilia. He was also responsible for identifying a number of recently found WW1 bodies, dug up when excavating for a pipeline, and as such has visited the families in Australia. He has a great story to tell. The food is quite good and service is excellent. Currently he (and a small group) is establishing a Brothers in Arms memorial, to remember family brothers killed in the war. The memorial is located opposite the restaurant
