1 Paula Brown IHG Reward member Booked from May 20 to May 26 Holiday Inn Werribe Confirm no. 45680532 Room 1132 Kia ora, My name is Paula Olive(Oriwa) Brown. I asked Jason my son to contact IHG Hotel and Resorts Sydney and talk on my behalf after returning to NZ, because I would become too emotional reliving the most, humiliating, degrading, belittled and prejudicial experience in all my life. This experience has caused me so much distress, and still does when I recall it to my family. A beautiful, special period of time will always be marred by this experience. Im a 68yr old lady from Papamoa Beach New Zealand. Three of my children live in the Melbourne metropolitan area and are residents of Australia. I have a 12yr old grandson also who lives there. And now I have a new mokopuna(grand daughter), named after me Oriwa(Olive),the reason I flew to Australia and booked at Holiday Inn Werribe as she and parents live in Mambourin. I would have loved to stay with her and her parents but I knew that my children would descend on me so instead of descending on their brother and his family, I had a place that they could come to. It was a precaution I opted to take because of covid 19 especially coming from NZ. My travel agent recommended Holiday Inn to me, with the Stay longer offer and 2 free breakfasts per day.It was new, looked comfortable, conveniently close to my mokopuna(grand baby) and the breakfasts were a bonus. I was picked up at the airport by my daughter, but as she was still working in Melbourne city, I went with her until she finished. My checkin was 2pm. I rang the hotel to advise them I will be in about 6pm. We arrived at the hotel, booked, in, no acknowledgement of being an IHG rewards member, handed over 2 keys, which said IHG member. There was no mention to me about accounts could be seen on the tv. Anyway, I didn't put on the tv and I was always out and arrived back late to the hotel. The night we booked in Friday the 20th we called for room service. The room was really comfortable and the housekeeping staff were exceptional. Very respectful. The view was brilliant. The bed was soo comfortable. I was very busy everyday and was out til late each day. My daughter and my 12yr old mokopuna(grandson) would be staying with me when they were able. I was really enjoying my stay. Monday 23rd, I invited my grand daughter and her Australian whanau to have breakfast with me. This lady who didnt intro herself asked me for my room number and how long had I been at the hotel. I gave her my room no. but she never asked for my name. I was never asked. Room number was the only requirement. Before I could tell her about my guests she turned to them and asked for their room no. I explained to her they were my guests. She then said I had to pay for two breakfasts which I said I had. She asked me who i paid. I indicated who. I did not want my guests to know I had prepaid. The way she handled this made me feel very embarrassed and uncomfortable because she wasn't discreet in her vocals. On the evening Tuesday the 24th I returned to the hotel after spending most of the day with my mokopuna(grand baby)and her other whanau(family) .I went up to the 11th floor and found that my key wouldn't work, so I went to reception and told the lady, who activated it and I left to go back to the room. It wasnt long before i answered a knock at my door at 8.30pm.Two people who were in the hotels colours, were standing there. Did not intro themselves. The lady I remembered I met at breakfast the day before. The man said i had a bill that had gone over the $400 limit. The lady said if I was looking at the tv I would have seen the bill. I was so shocked, I apologised and asked for the total bill, which the man said $500. I told them that I would have to transfer funds which I did. Twice it declined because it was in conversion process. Both times it declined the lady yelled out declined. We were in the corridor, so other guests would be able to hear what she was saying. The third time, it worked and I asked for a receipt and a breakdown of charges. She became very defensive and derogatory when she gave me a glimpse of a meal account. She was acting very unprofessional because I wanted a breakdown showing me what the $500 was made up on. I also said to her, that I felt they thought I couldnt pay for the bill and that I was gunna do a runner. The man was saying no no no but the women didnt deny this. I asked them what was the hotels processes when this happens. 2 hrs later after 10.30pm the man dropped off a itemised account and left. Looking over this account I was shocked at the anomalies on my account mainly from the Food and Beverage dept. Charge of items that we hadn't received but were charged for and items that we ordered but did not received. Charge of a full meal costing $197 and parking bill for the whole week. These charges alone pushed me over the $400 limit. I rang reception and asked if I could speak to the GM. When I was put through to him, i asked him for an urgent meeting with him because of the anomalies I had found on my bill. When the knock came, I got a shock when I opened up the door. In a surprised voice, i asked “ are you the GM” which he said yes. The lady who wasn't invited but invited herself anyway said she was the Food and Beverage manager. I did not get their names, or if they did give them, I didnt catch them. We discussed all the extra charges and I had made a list of everything that we had ordered from the restaurant and items that we ordered but didnt get but still charged for. I gave the GM permission to screenshot my list. They then left. The next morning I meet my 12yr grandson and daughter after the breakfast. I was approached by the F&B manager saying that they had more proof my daughter and grandson had consummed the $197 as she had it on cctv. I asked to see it and she agreed that I could. The GM was there and another man who I learnt later was the tech man. My daughter who also glimpsed the restaurant act at this time, said she never consumed that meal as she was a vegetarian and didnt eat steak. She also wouldnt be leaving a tip as was on the act. The room number on that act was 1136 and 1138. She had ordered 2 oprah cakes and was waiting for the order to be filled. She and her son ate half and decided to take the rest to the room to finish. As she was getting on the lift she was chased down by a server asking for her name. She gave this to her. These management personel, did not listen to her. The F&B manager was so loud and defensive, disrespectful and did not show any constraint or regard for myself, daughter, grandchild and the other guests in the dinning room and guests signing in. When I asked if we could take this to a more private place and what the hotels processes were, I was talked over by that food manager that they had proof. Leaving everyone around the reception area, they all went into the back room and she came out to show me 2 clips that they had taken of my daughter sitting at a table and one of a server carrying plates, not near her either. Could have been for anyone. None of them showed her eating this $197 meal. I watched them as they argued with my daughter and couldn't believe this could be happening in the lobby. None of them were professional. They didnt care about any of the guests around them. The male that said he was the GM, just stood there and let the loud mouth F&B manager take over. Then she turned to me and said, you are to leave the Hotel. When asked her why she said “ because youre dishonest “. Whos the dishonest person here, me paying $500 with an apology or the restaurant under her management, of putting extra food and beverages on my act or leaving on food we ordered but never received but charged for. All I did was ask for a breakdown and when I received it, I queried some of the charges. A beautiful, special moment in time marred by this experience.

Werribee Short Stay Villas & Accommodation

Great for those seeking quiet self contained accommodation

Reviewed By Masterofsolotravels

I stayed at the Short Stay Villa in 2016 and having found it highly satisfactory then, I’ve returned for the Labour Day long weekend of 2020. It’s located on the outskirts of Werribee so if you’re looking for a place that’s surrounded by eateries, this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for something that’s quiet and self contained, then this is definitely the place. This accommodation would be best suited to either singles or couples. Although there are 2 bedroom units that would accommodate a family with 1-2 kids, there’s no play areas or swimming pools to keep kids entertained. Part of the complex is actually a retirement village so the accommodation are units of either 1 or 2 bedrooms. Last time, I stayed in a 2 bedroom one; this time, just 1 but for one person it’s plenty. As mentioned previously, they’re self contained with their own kitchen area and utensils, crockery, etc so that one can cook (rather than eat out) if they wish to. The only thing that’s missing is a washing machine or laundry hence the 4 star rating. As I’m only here for a weekend, it’s not such a big deal for me personally; for those staying a bit longer, though, it might be more of an issue. Other points in favour of Short Stay Villas: 1) Well cleaned and maintained villas 2) Modern furniture, plumbing and electricity 3) Showers are nice and warm 4) Close to a BP petrol station 5) Reception staff are lovely, especially John who managed the check in process for me
