The Royal Oak Hotel is a Grade II listed building which began its life in the 18th century, however parts of it are much older. There is a chimney stack in the hotel which features stone from an abbey that once stood in Pool Quay in Elizabethan times. Originally The hotel lay in the grounds of nearby Powis Castle. During its existence for centuries this grandiose Georgian building has welcomed many travellers through its doors. During our time as a coaching inn on the main route to the welsh coast of Wales, the Hotel saw its current function suite used as a stables with its own Ostler (someone who looks after horses). Notably, in 2010, The Royal Oak Hotel pleasure of welcoming one of the most prestigious guests from anywhere in the world, Her Majesty the Queen, when she visited Welshpool to open its new indoor cattle market and to have lunch at The Royal Oak Hotel.
Celebrating our 24th Wedding Anniversary was topped off with a perfect meal at The Royal Oak Hotel. The decor was relaxing, and the service was polite and warm. The food was exceptional. We only had a starter and main, but both dishes were presented beautifully. Added to this was the cleanliness of the restaurant. The tables, chairs, and floor were really clean. Unlike some well known pub chains that have sticky tables and carpet. You can tell that the Hotel Manager and his staff take much pride in their work and guests. We would recommend this Hotel to all, and we plan to stay next time to enjoy the warm service even more, while enjoying what Welshpool has to offer.

Nicely situated in a green dell with great specimen trees, flowering shrubs, and plants we did not expect in Wales! A great old house with beautiful interiors, modern decor and twists making good use of old features. Great hosts and excellent breakfasts.

I stayed with my husband for one night and felt very welcomed at Noddfa. The room was very comfortable, the shower was powerful and the hosts were super welcoming and friendly. A lovely house and perfect spot. We were treated with a full english breakfast and catered for all my picky needs ! It was just like staying with family away from home.

My Wife & I drove to Welshpool from Surrey, for a family funeral, with my Mother in law and sister in law. We needed to check in early as the funeral was at 1.30pm. After speaking to Jackie, the Owner, she confirmed this wasn’t a problem. After arriving, nothing was too much trouble. We stayed for 2 nights and the rooms were comfortable, the lounge area was spacious and welcoming and the breakfasts were fantastic. We will definitely stay again and would recommend Top House to all, for short or long stays. It really was a ‘Home from Home’.
