Once again, we enjoyed our stay at ATKV Klein Kariba ("Berghuis"). Quite private, with all needed for self-catering in unit. They also supply a free bag of good braaiwood! We try to stay here at least 2x per year.

We stopped there on our way back from Botswana , overlanding and camping for some 5500 km ! What a pleasure it was to arrive at such a beautiful place , welcoming , clean and superbly appointed diningroom , lounge, bedrooms and relaxation area around a crystal clear pool. Their manager on duty , I think his name was " Charlie" was extremely helpful and gracious and attended to our every need ! I hope that his hosts afford him the credit he deserves! The property is just on the outskirts of the town and offers a sense of tranquility and quietness one looks for and yet accessibility to the town is just 2 minutes drive away. Breakfast was top-draw and delicious. This place is very special and highly recommended. Deserves it 4 star status and yet very affordable rates.

We last stayed here 7 years ago and much has changed, mostly for the better. The point of coming here is of course the wildlife. This was just as good as ever and our drivers made a real effort to find the animals that we wanted to see and, apart from the elusive cheetahs & leopards, they succeeded. There is one point that may not be to every safari goers taste - a number of the key beasts had tags; presumably to aid discovery as well as herd management. This has pros and cons: - on the positive, it assists good viewings of the target animals thus less disappointment; - on the negative, it removes an element of the "in the wild" experience that other safaris might provide. My view was I enjoyed the sightings. Where the venue has really improved is the main communal facilities - ie the dining. Whilst some evenings were a set buffet style menu, the food was varied and good. Wine was decent and reasonably priced. The a la carte evenings had very good food considering where we are sitting. The lodges are well laid out with a fair degree of privacy. A great week.

Phumelelo Lodge - only 1h 30min from Pretoria and 2 hours from OR Tambo International Airport. Phumelelo Lodge is situated in the "Big 5" Mabalingwe Game Reserve which is non-malria area. With us, will enjoy an authentic African experience which will keep you coming back. At Phumelelo Lodge your 2-day break will feel like a week long holiday. Please note: Our listed prices are exclusive of VAT (Sales Tax) of 14%.
The views are amazing. Rooms are spacious and kept clean, the Staff goes out of their way to make your stay worthwhile, the drinks are reasonably priced and the food is okay. Note there is a gravel road (a few kilometers) to get to the lodge, it is manageable with a small car though. Better signage is needed as it is easy to get lost and there is poor cellphone coverage in the area. The only thing we didnt enjoy was the game drive (it was done on the farm/premises and not at Mabalingwe as advertised, so there was no big 5 and it was done at midday when its extremely hot and all of the animals are under shades). Overall the stay was very good.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by one of the ladies which was nice. The place is beautiful and the environment is peaceful. There is no noise and distractions from other visitors which we really loved. The chalets are spacious and super clean. We loved the fact that the chalets have full cutlery including enough plates and pots, and we didn't have to buy anything except food during our stay. The children loved the animals and it was so cool seeing them up close. Will definitely visit again. Thank you for hosting us!!

Zebula Golf Estate & Spa is a stunning and totally unique lifestyle destination a mere 2-hour drive north of Johannesburg in the magnificent malaria-free Waterberg region of Limpopo Province. Singles, couples, families, and groups will be delighted at the quality and range of accommodation available at Zebula which ranges from 5-star to 4-star lodge rooms as well as splendid luxury homes for families. We also have a fully equipped Gym, squash and Tennis Court and much more. The Spa at Zebula offers a wide range of treatments and therapies that will have you spoilt for choice. Zebula is truly the place to be in the Bushveld.
I last came to Zebula 7 years ago when it was “twinned” with the next door, same-family owned resort, Mabula. At that time the twin strategy was a great idea as Mabula had great game drives but poor dining and Zebula had lesser game drives but possessed a golf course (not great but a nice change), nice bars and a really quite good restaurant. One could freely book into the next door resort, and many guests did. There has presumably been a falling out. Mabula has improved its offering substantially (separate review). Nevertheless, we drove over to Zeb to have a looksee and the first change was to be charged to enter the estate (only £5 but still a surprise). Then we discovered: - dreadful bar area complete with excruciating karaoke (even if you like karaoke, this was dreadful); - poor food menu, mostly fast food that was very poorly prepared; - the (formerly excellent) balcony restaurant is permanently closed. Of course, COVID has damaged the hospitality sector globally and the owners may have felt the need to make changes in order to fulfil new / any available demand. However, I’m afraid that for my group the changes are exclusively awful. We didn’t go back and never will.

What a joke! The worst hotel experience in my life. Unfriendly reception. Unacceptable rooms: smelly, leaking walls !?, stains on carpets and upholstery, plastic spoons for coffee, stinky pillows, no towels in bathroom. Didn’t stay for breakfast… couldn’t bear another minute.

Nedile Lodge is situated in the Malaria free, Welgevonden Game Reserve 3 hours drive from Pretoria. Welgevonden Game Reserve is a declared Heritage Site of 36000 hectares (more than 80000 acres) bordering the Marekele National Park and part of the Waterberg Biosphere. This true bushveld environment is home to some of Africa’s most sought after game species, including one of the largest collections of white rhino on private land. Other species housed within this reserve include elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, eland and many other varieties of antelope. There may even be the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the aardvark, brown hyena or rarely seen honey badger
This was my second time visiting Nedile Lodge and once again the lodge staff exceeded my expectations. The rangers at Nedile are top-notch. They not only know the roads of the reserve like the back of their hand they also understand animal behavior. This has allowed the rangers to get us to the right spots and at the right time to see some of Africa's Big Five Game. While not on Safari drives the staff at the lodge pampered us. From the luxurious meals to the wonderful cocktails. The chef at Nedile prepared wonderful meals all throughout the day that would rival most big city high-end restaurants. Need to unwind? Nedile has you covered with comfy cozy indoor and outdoor seating. If you are relaxing on the deck which looks over the reserve you might see an elephant or two at the watering hole below.
