Owners Jesus Magaña and his wife Lulis were born in the states of Michoacan and Zacatecas, Mexico and moved to Monroe. They opened their first restaurant, Mi Tierra in February 2001. The restaurant has earned it's way into the heart of locals and visitors
Really nice service and good quality/quantity, but this is a Mexican-American eatery with very little authentically prepared dishes. If you want rice, beans & salsa - this is a place you'll like. If you want REALLY authentic taste for the food & margaritas you will be disappointed. While it may be the highest rated of it's type - Mi Tierra has a ways to go to earn a better review. The "Street Tacos" with pork el pastor had a strong pepper taste with no pineapple to balance and the pork was way overcooked. The best dish was a nicely prepared Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo. We will likely give this place another try.

My friend was extremely excited that the chips were refilled when they were only halfway gone. It's the little things. We got two margaritas, definitely check the menu cause they have at least ten different ones. He got the pork Verde, a little dry, and I got a veggie burrito which was really good!

We travel to the Yucatan a couple times a year, but when we are home this is our local place for good Mexican food and service. Always treated like family and great food! Check out the specials and anyone of the soups. The menu has all the "American" standbys but even those are more flavorful and authentic. Even the rice and beans are great.
