We went to Shorelineâs annual evening Jazz Walk, which features terrific musicians and singers as well as food trucks. My husband bought two tacos at one truck, but I saw nothing that appealed to me until I came to Leenaâs Cafe. Staff had placed a long table in front of the eatery and were busy dishing out free vanilla ice cream cones to those standing in a line, which my husband joined. I, however, looked at a short menu. It listed items that could be prepared inside to go.I opted for a gyro sandwich ($8), which came quickly and included fries. I ate at a communal table that had been placed outside with chairs. The pita bread proved to be fresh, soft and tasty and contained plenty of meat, garnished with big slices of fresh tomato and red onion. Tsiastu sauce came in a small container, allowing me to add just the amount that I wanted. The fries were crispy and non-greasy. My husband joined me to finish his cone and appeared to be quite content with his dessert, which disappeared quickly. The staff taking orders and distributing cones were upbeat and efficient. When I went inside the cafe, the staff there were busy taking care of customers in the large, clean, ultra-casual room. It was about 75 percent full. I liked the simple ambience and layout with two dining counters and lots of booths. Despite the number of diners, the noise level was low. The regular menu offered many possibilities, including breakfast, salads and burgers.Iâve made a note to stop here again at next yearâs Jazz Walk.

Grinders Hot Sands is an Italian based restaurant in Shoreline, WA serving tasty, famous grinders, amazing pasta and soups that have a local following. Lunch and dinner daily. Beer and wine. Live music. Take out and order ahead available.
Being from New England, the sign "Grinders" immediately captured my attention. That's what we called "sub sandwiches" where I grew up. Expectations high, I hoped not to be disappointed. Well, disappointed was the last thing I was--my wife too. We've only been there three times since we discovered it, but each of our experiences (2 take out and 1 dine in) were outstanding.First, the food is amazing. The skill and care that goes into their preparation and cooking is obvious. During our third visit, I said to the server, "Your food is so good I was afraid it was illegal." And, speaking of the server, one gal was handling the busy Friday lunch crowd. She was great! Friendly, efficient, and professional. The restaurant is clean, has a unique personality, and a pleasant ambiance--a bit of a jazz theme, photos of Rat Pack in restroom. At the risk of increasing their customer base, making my wait longer for my grinder, I'm telling all my friends and family--not to mention, perfect strangers--about this place. Can't wait to go back.

I thought it would be your standard diner but the Greek omelette was superbly light and fluffy with the delightful saltiness of the feta cheese. The cinnamon roll was a perfect marriage of bread and sugary goodness with a scoop of butter melting into every crack. No request seemed to burden our waitress but she really gave us the smile when we showed kindness and gave compliments.

We stopped in for a weekday breakfast to a fairly empty restaurant and were seated immediately. The place was immaculate and looked like it was caught in a 1940âs or 50âs time warp. Service was very prompt and the staff and servers were outgoing and friendly. I ordered the corned beef hash, which was the special of the day, and my wife had a cheese omelet. Both orders came up quickly, were piping hot and sized for lumberjacks! While I knew my dish came with 3 poached eggs, we presumed the same for the omelet based on its size. As if that wasnât enough, our plates came with a very large portion of hash browns and 2 slices of toast. Both our meals were good and satisfying though my wife could only eat half of hers. Plus, the attentive server replenished our coffee with such speed that we never saw the bottom of the cup. If you want an old-fashioned breakfast with a down-home feel, you wonât go wrong here.
