Excellent friendly and efficient staff. Great little spa, enjoyed the pool and steam rooms. Good food in pleasant surroundings. Even had a picnic in the lovely grounds on a sunny afternoon. Would recommend for a central hotel without corporate trappings

Stayed due to a great Sunday night offer - experience justified the cheap rate. No staff greeted us on arrival - didn't actually see anyone until check out. Bar closed by 10.30pm, earlier than advertised. Room and breakfast was just average.

I have spent over 50 nights at this hotel over the past 3-4 years, but this is my first visit since it re-opened to the public, and I am afraid to say it was awful. The main issue appears to be the lack of staff, the ones I met are trying their very best but they are woefully short of numbers and rushed off their feet, spending more time apologising than anything else. Booking in there was a poor young girl on her own, who apologised in a lovely manner for the delays, but she clearly didn't know what she was doing, and it later transpired she was a trainee. She was becoming more flustered as the queue built up and it took an excessively long time just to check in. The question should be, why was a trainee left on her own to man reception at 5.30pm? A more senior or experienced member of staff did eventually appear to help her and again she was pleasant and helpful, but also appeared flustered and over run. When it came to the evening meal, there were just 2 staff manning the bar and taking food orders, including clearing tables and serving food. No menu's were available when I went to order and they had to go searching the restaurant to find one. There were often 5 or 6 people waiting to order at one time and this was taking up to 15 minutes. The staff were constantly apologising for delays and I don't know if they were also short staffed in the kitchen but food was generally 30 minutes plus, and when ordering we were told there could be a 35-40 minute delay. Talking to the staff it appeared the hotel was fairly busy that night with over 70 rooms booked, so imagine the shock when at breakfast the next morning, the staff count was 1 person looking after all those guests. The lady concerned was called Trina and bless her she was run off her feet, I made a point of speaking to her before I left telling her she was working above and beyond what should be expected. Judging by my many, many previous stays at this hotel, it now appears that it is trying to be run on minimal or skeleton staff which is having a severe knock on effect to the hotel guests and the overall experience. Previously I would have quite happily booked this hotel as a first/second option, and in the future I will probably need to stay here again, but sadly it will only be if there is no availability in the other hotels in the area, as this will now probably be my last choice.

Whether you're keen to get started on the local sights, or you're stopping off on your way to places like Alton Towers or Legoland, Premier Inn Walsall is the perfect place to stay. There's sports galore on your doorstep too. Get up close to some breathtaking art at Walsall Art Gallery. And some breathless sports action at the judo competitions held at the sports campus. Or take part in a swimming event at the Gala baths opposite. Then dive into a seriously comfortingly cosy bed back at your hotel and drift off to the land of nod.
Clean, friendly staff and what you expect from a budget hotel. The location was the best thing right in the middle of the town cenre. The only think that was of concern would be the parking which was not owed or run by the hotel.

Been staying in this particular Travelodge every week for the past three years and there’s always a friendly face behind the desk. Emma is especially upbeat and ensures she greets every guest with a smile and conversation.

Arrived late afternoon after a very long day. We were put in a room facing the major roadworks with the repetitive banging of machinery. Asked for a quieter room to be told they were fully booked and in fact overbooked!! Was told also not to touch the window. I had wanted to open it for ventilation before I realised the unfortunate position of the room. We had to use a fan as the room was stuffy. I asked if they had earplugs, after waiting at reception for several minutes I was told they had run out. We were given 2 vouchers for one drink each. Was in bed at 8.30 pm watching the tv when we heard someone trying to get into our room. It turned out to be 2 guests given the same room. Then the manager knocked at our door to say that they had given us the wrong room. I was upset and told the manager it was disgusting that I could not even feel safe in their hotel.

I booked this hotel on the strength of its reviews but could not bring myself to stay the night and checked our writing off the cost as it was so bad. As i entered the hotel i was assulted by the smell of stale beer from the bar which dominates the entrance and transported back to 1980s back street bars with sticky carpets. Nevertheless when I checked in I was proudly told I had the best room in the house and I was hopeful that the bedrooms which were accessed by a separate corridor would be better....I was wrong. Putting aside the incredibly dated decor, featuring fake mahogany styling and 1990 striped/ patterned wallpaper combo motched with peeling paint on the window frames and an actual TV cabinet. The room smelled of dust and mustiness reminiscent of visiting elderly relatives. The hankercheif table cloth on the bedside table was stained and the satin quilted bedspread and pillow cases looked slightly greasy. In fact when I sat on the bed the pillows themselves smelled as if a greasy head had slept on them for 10 years without washing them ?. The bathroom too was dated with a corner jacuzzi bath encased in mahogany panelling (no shower) and the sealant/grout stained by black mould. I hate to think about the water jets which I know are difficult to clean at the best of times but based on the remainder of the room. As a result I checked straight back out without requesting a refund. I was granted one however, though I suspect this to be so that my booking which I made through booking.com could be cancelled so I could not leave a review. Hence the review here.

My golf Society stayed at Calderfields over the bank holiday weekend, a large society of x23, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the staff from the catering, bar management, cleaning, and not forgetting receptionists and golfing team all to be thoroughly curteous and did their jobs to a high standard. Would I go again, most definitely.
