Reviewed By Navigator545041Where to start? The minute we arrived on the grounds, we fell in love. The castle was beautiful and romantic. We were greeted with a friendly front desk agent who was very helpful. They seemed to have preserved the authenticity of the castle yet with modern rooms. The room we had overlooked the valley. It was extremely clean and spacious enough to have a travel crib. The bathroom was also great, loved the heated floors. We had flown in from Canada so our sleep that night was wonderful, hearing nothing but the trees at night. Very peaceful! The location is also great, walking distance to restaurants and shops. Definitely recommend this beautiful property!

Good hotel, but has seen better times
Reviewed By fraugastWe did not stay in the actual hotel building but in a holiday cottage (large, about 140 sqm.) on the premises. The cottage consists of a large living rooms (stairs leading down!), an open kitchen with attached storage room, two bedrooms, each featuring a kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom (one with a shower only, one with shower and tub), a guest toilet and a long hallway with a built-in clothes rack. All in our group found the beds to be very comfortable. The furniture in the living room seemed fairly new and modern and the the ktichen was well-equipped with plenty of dishes, cutlery, pots etc. There was a dishwasher, a cooker and a microwave. The large balcony on the back of the house is accessible from both bedrooms and from the living room. There is some furniture on the balcony and it allows great views of the surrounding area. Everything was spotlessly clean, however it smelled strongly of mould when we entered the house. The open fire place in the living room (wood provided by the hotel) is a nice touch. There is no wifi in the cottage. The big drawback of the cottage is its location, which is about 100m down the hill from the hotel in the backyard of a huge, run-down apartment house. Therefore, if you want to make use of the hotel's spa facilities (or eat in the restaurant) it means packing your bag and trudging up the steep hill leading up to the hotel or - and I am not sure which one is worse - make use of the shortcut (staircase - I am not sure the elevator works, we did not trust it - through the uninhabited, run-down apartment house, which is quite scary. There is ample parking space near the cottage. Walking distance to Waldeck castle and air tram is about 500m. The hotel itself has the atmosphere of a typical 1980-1990s house; furniture, wallpaper etc. are all a bit dated. What really put me off was the smell of smoke that hovered through the lobby, the hallway and the restaurant. Its source was a little bar near the reception, with a capacity of perhaps 20 seats which was completely crowded with double the number of smokers everytime I walked by. The door was left open all the time (otherwise the "inmates" probably would have died of suffocation) and the smoke was allowed to spread through the hotel, which was pretty disgusting. The restaurant comprised a large hall-like room where company groups or tour groups (bus tours!) were seated and a small area separated by a small dividing wall for individual guests. The corner for individual guests was nicely decorated, however all the noise from the group section could be overheard. Food and service were excellent. Staff was very friendly and attentive, both in the restaurant as wee as in the rest of the hotel. There is a disco in the basement where a dance event or some kind of group entertainment was held when we walked by in the evening, I am not sure whether the noise can be heard inside the building, but it was quite loud in the street. The spa is also somewhat outdated and could need a revamp. Facilities in the spa area consist of a swimming pool, a small sauna and a steam room, changing room and lockers. There are definitely not enough loungers when the hotel is fully booked. I think there were about 10 loungers by the swimming pool and four loungers in the rest area next to the saunas. Also, the loungers, though new, are not very comfortable. They are ok to lie on, however they are extremely low and it might be difficult for older people to get up from. The hotel has 60 rooms, thus in the afternoon, when people come back from excursions, the spa area gets terribly crowded. Massages and beauty treatments are also offered. I had a beauty treatment and a massage, I was happy with both. There is a small supermarket up the road (150m), a post office and some restaurants nearby. Parking in the hotel's parking lot is tricky when fully booked. All in all we had a pleasant stay, however be aware that the place has some flaws.

Relaxing and comfortable place

Charming hideaway... almost an "insider" getaway!
Reviewed By marie kWe spent 5 wonderful days at Strandhaus 12. This lakeside maritime style hotel located on the Edersee in Waldeck, Hessen is charming, comfortable and affordable! Our rooms were cozy, tastefullyand thoughtfully designed with nice views. The meals were very tasty and the kitchen proved to be flexible and creative serving our individual wishes. Dinners were delicious and although I am not a breakfast eater per se, I did enjoy the breakfast every morning our entire stay! The dining areas were very nice offering in and outdoor arrangements including a covered Snackbar on the lower terrasse. The lakeside location is wonderful with fanstatic views of the lake from varying perspectives. Evenings on the terrasse or the roofed patio lounge with a good wine and good conversation with other guests and occaisionally the owners after hours, made the perfect ending to a great day on the lake. All in all, our vacation was perfect. Thanks Strandhaus 12!

Beautiful location, friendly and clean
Reviewed By MBannisterWe found this place while driving through Edersee and were given a great welcome by the friendly family who run it. The rooms were spotless and the showers good and warm. The breakfast is wunderbar! Thanks would definitely come and stay again. (Arrive before 8.30pm to get dinner in the hotel, otherwise highly recommend the Italian restuarant in the medieval village 10 mins walk from the hotel)

Reviewed By MWSLogEine in Waldeck stattfindende Weiterbildung führte uns hierher und wir waren begeistert. Die Suiten sind sauber, modern und wunderschön eingerichtet, mit Liebe zum Detail. Unser Appartement bestand aus zwei Zimmern, Küche und Bad. Das Bad war groß, mit Wäschetrockner, Schrank zum Verstauen der Utensilien, Fön und Wechselhandtüchern ausgestattet. In der Küche findet man ausreichend Geschirr für zwei Personen, Kühlschrank, Herd und Mikrowelle. Im Wohnzimmer steht ein großes modernes und gemütliches Sofa, das Schlafzimmer ist mit einem Doppelbett ausgestattet und einem Kleiderschrank. Beide Zimmer besitzen einen Balkon, der einen wunderschönen Blick auf die Waldeck umgebene Natur bietet. Es ist wunderbar ruhig, kein Straßenlärm und die Nachbarn bemerkt man nur, wenn man gleichzeitig auf dem Balkon steht. Die Suiten liegen zentrumsnah, sodass Geschäfte und Restaurants fußläufig erreichbar sind. Ein kostenfreier Parkplatz steht am Haus zur Verfügung. Wir waren begeistert und kommen gern wieder, wenn es uns das nächste Mal nach Waldeck treibt.

What a great location
Reviewed By Sarah HWe booked this hotel with no real knowledge except that it was on the lake. Not many are so this was a plus for us. It was great. Nice rooms that were a little small but clean and had a new bathroom. Each room has a view of the lake and a balcony. We enjoyed it all. We also ate at the restaurant and rented an electric boat from the hotel. The boat ride was the highlight of the trip. The service overall was great and the outdoor seating area was really nice.

Reviewed By AerailleWe only had dinner at this hotels restaurant, as we were staying at the Schloss, and wanted to find a local restaurant. We had a table at the window with a view and experienced prompt service as well as well prepared local dishes. Our main aim was to find a restaurant which serves good german food and we were pleased with our choice. Prices were reasonable.
