Our lake home is nearby, and we sometimes eat here instead of driving into Lynchburg, where there are two Applebee's with friendly, prompt service. This time we stood in the entrance for several minutes while at least two waitresses walked by without even making eye contact. A woman who appeared to be the manager stayed behind the bar and never looked up either. There were very few customers, but even after our presence was finally acknowledged, there was some sort of disagreement about where we would be seated. We just stood there for a while longer, regretting that we decided on this particular Applebee's. My husband and grandson were too polite to leave. I just went next door to Wendy's, where the service was much better.
Woke up hungry and craving a quick and tasty, breakfast place near you? From fluffy, hand-rolled Made From Scratch⢠Biscuits⢠to crispy bacon on our classic breakfast platter to breakfast favorites that you can't get anywhere elseâ¦Hardee's® serves food ju
We stopped in Hardees for lunch and that turned out to be a very good choice. The restaurant was clean, the employees were polite and courteous and the service was excellent. They took our order and then brought our food to our table. The meal was delicious, the price was reasonable and the overall experience could not have been better.
My wife and I stopped for lunch, on our way back home from a trip to Charlotte. We didn't really want fast food, and Tuscan's reviews on Yelp were pretty good, so we thought we've give it a shot. Lucky choice. The food was actually very good, and unbelievably priced. When is the last time you found an Italian lunch buffet for $6.99. And all of the sandwiches, with fries, were also $6.99. Wow. My wife had a Greek salad, which was huge and full of ingredients other than just lettuce. I went ahead and tried the buffet. The spaghetti was average, the red sauce penne was good, and the chicken/red pepper penne alfredo was very good. The pizza was excellent. Service was very good also. If you're running down route 29 in the Altavista, VA area, search this one out and try it.
TOTALLY worth a stop off route 29 IF you enjoy southern -style food like momma used to make!WHAT A FIND: Perfectly fried chicken, stewed tomatoes, corn bread, beans...plus home-made pineapple upside-down cake! Not for the faint-of-heart, this small town, run down restaurant has seen better days (probably as a shoney's or fast food joint)....please remember: LOOKS CAN be deceiving. (If you prefer a predictable over-priced "chain" dining experience, its right next door). Now if you enjoy REAL FOOD, made on the premises, by experienced and friendly local staff, stop in for a bit of Americana (and a blast from the past!) For 18.17 (our bill.not the year), my husband and I enjoyed everything on the buffet (several times), along with sweet tea and CSI episodes on an old bubble-screen TV. Fast food at its finest... And an experience we WILL remember! (Hey, isn't that what traveling is supposed to be about?)

Well it is a little hard to get in and out of and parking is limited, but the staff is very friendly and they seem like they have known you for ever

Altavista's #1 restaurant and destination dining experience in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
I stopped here while doing some business outside Altavista. I saw it while driving down the road. I felt everything was average. I purchased a salami, cheese, and tomato sandwich with a bag of chips and ice tea. You place your order and they buzz you when it is ready, so there is no waitress. The atmosphere is OK, tables placed in front of a window looking out at Main Street.William, thanks for your honest feedback. I'm sorry your experience wasn't super positive. Our pager system is quick and efficient, but it does lack the personal touch of a waitress. We hope that your interactions with the register staff and kitchen were positive. We would love for you to visit us again!

While spending a fun weekend with my wife exploring Appomattox, Smith Mountain Lake and surrounding area we stopped at Perkyâs. The hostess let me know that the wait was going to be an hourâafter smelling the wonderful aromas I decided weâd wait. Quite a few locals were waiting and we enjoyed a pleasant conversation while we waited. Once seated, the service was prompt and fun. We both ordered steaks which were seasoned and cooked to perfection. The sides were wonderful as well. The ambiance is expanded diner... with a Veteran appreciation motif. Perkyâs has a wonderful energy, delightful people and great food.
