The most popular beach resort in the country, Vina del Mar is within reach of both Santiago and Valparaiso. Vina teems with tourists during peak months December, January and February, despite Antarctic currents that make swimming a formidable prospect. Renaca is the hippest spot to sink onto the sands. The Fonck Museum and Quinta Vergara provide insights into the area's recent and ancient history, archaeology and natural history. Stroll along Avenida Peru and take in stunning ocean views.

My first test in many restaurants starts with ordering a manhattan. For me this sets the stage. The one served was perfect and served in a real manhattan glass, not usually found anywhere. Wife had a good pisco sour. Owners came over and introduced themselves; husband is the chef and wife is the hostess. Really nice people and he speaks English, German and Spanish.
Wife had ostrich which she was hesitant about but truly enjoyed it and I had goulash which was served with spaetzle in true German fashion. Goulash was tender with the right amount of seasoning to make it reminiscent of European style cuisine. Finished off with apple strudel and espresso and was ready for a nap. Atmosphere was warm and cozy. Give this place a chance to prove that there is great food in Chile other than the usual stuff.

We visited here for an early dinner (Which means 8PM in Chile!!). The serving staff was excellent, very attentive and very helpful. They have menus in English available. I had the Shrimp Saltimbocca. It was good but not great. I am not sure that shrimp and beef were really meant to be put together in this way. My wife had the salmon which was excellent. We had a chocolate torte dessert that was excellent. The reviews we read about the gnocchi were spot on. It really is just pasta. Skip that and stick with ordering seafood. This was the advice we received about Valparaiso and Vina del Mar and we should have stuck with it.

We enjoyed a very nice lunch. With so many restaurants catering to the heavy tourist crowd along the this strip, it's not easy to get a nice meal. We walked just a little further and found San Marco. Large windows open into the restaurant and they were spotless. Once inside, the interior is open and relaxing. The menu is typical italian, this is not a pizza shop. The food and service was simply, very good. The kitchen turns out high quality Italian, seasoned and favorable. The food is not for the tourist, rather for someone whom enjoyed a nice meal. We would not hesitate to eat here again.

A large selection of empanadas, pizzas, lasagnas. All empanadas can be ordered either baked or fried, which is not the case with a lot of other places. The lineup outside the place in summer shows that others agree that it's a great option.

If you plan to visit Valparaiso, Vina del Mar is just a bit further. This place is busy, we are originally from Southern California and were hungry for Mexican, This is the real thing, we had tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, chips, salsa, black beens and rice. Even the margaritas were good. There is parking one block behind the restaurant in an open dirt lot, just remember to tip the lady.

This was recommended by the Concierge at our hotel and it was a great experience. The food was delicious and service was outstanding - they were quite friendly and helpful, especially with the menu in Spanish.
The decor is a bit home-style like...hard to describe. It was within easy walking distance from the town and nearby hotels.
The best peruano pisco sours in all of Chile that we tasted!

We ate there for dinner after stumbling on it while walking around Vina del Mar, then checking TA and seeing how it was ranked. The host/waiter was very friendly and helpful, service was very good. Our dishes were quite good, but way too much food. We each ordered one of the specials, and could easily have split one. It's not easy to find, in an alley (but hardly a dark or scary alley!) It's somewhat quaint, with several small dining rooms. We'd try it again.
