Upsetting

It greatly upsets me to write this review, having waited what is now a few days for a response to my raised points concerning our stay. Firstly, the golf course, the staff on the golf course, the grill and the Rui Silverstre plus all restaurant staff were outstanding. This is the finest golf course I have ever played, with every hole being worthy of signature status. The after effects of the fire were there for all to see, but they do not affect the course, or your enjoyment and experience of playing the course. The practice facilities are excellent, and the little things such as being greeted by one of the pros and taken down to the range, then being collected and taken to the first tee shortly before tee off time, leave you with an overwhelming sensation that the service here is outstanding, and mostly it is. It’s these little things, that cost nothing, but leave a huge impression. You even almost forgive the fact that if you need to buy golf balls, they are three times the regular cost… The breakfast at the grill is most likely the best you will ever experience. Anything you wish for is made to order, but you are still brought a “table buffet” of fruits, yoghurt, granola. cheese, meat, pastries, orange juice and any hot drink you wish for. All served by the loveliest of people. Lunch at the grill is also superb, with a varied menu choice including salads, steaks, and other popular options. The Rui Silverstre restaurant is not what you would expect to find in a golf clubhouse. Even though you know when booking that this is a Michelin star restaurant, you cannot possibly expect it to be to the standard it actually is. Inventive, delicious, with a superb (local) wine pairing brought to you by a highly experienced sommelier, and in my experience on a parr with the two star Michelin restaurant, the Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles, the highest rated restaurant in the whole of Scotland. The waiting staff are also just the loveliest bunch and worthy of much praise. I would happily have given my review a rating of five stars, but my experience had been ruined by the attitude and responses of the reservations, villa management and reception staff. This booking was made because I wanted to take my 86 year old father on a holiday he would treasure forever. He is a single figure handicap golfer and remarkable for his age. You could say that golf and family are his life, so I booked this trip to take my father, my son, our head pro, my wife and my mother on this unforgettable holiday. My father has stayed her before, and told me it really was the only place to go to in Portugal. I contacted reservations, who responded very quickly, with details of their three and four bedroom villas. The prices were high, but I expected they would be. As the four bedroom villas have their own pools, I decided to ask my wife and mother along. They do not play golf, but I felt they could relax by the pool, play tennis, go to the beach etc and have a nice experience, whilst observing my father having his special holiday. The reservations staff explained that a 50% deposit is required, which I paid, snd the balance is then payable on arrival, which I paid on checking in. At check in I was also asked to pay over 400 euros deposit as a damage waiver fee, which was strange, but I paid it. We were taken to the Villa, which was beautifully proportioned and we felt very much at home. In the garden was the pool, open and inviting, with stunning views towards the coast ( which is a 20 minute drive away ). My wife decided to have a swim in the pool, which is when we found out it wasn’t heated. This was the month of May, and therefore, without heating, the pool was far too cold to swim in. We didn’t try to use the pool again during our four night stay. I raised this issue with reception and was told that not all the pools are heated, and if you want a heated pool you need to request this prior to arriving….. they could / would do no more regarding this, even though this information had not been mentioned at the time of booking. This, and the fact that they also want you to pay extra to use the tennis courts, pretty much ruined the experience for my wife and mother, and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The next morning we all tried to take a shower in our respective rooms. There was no hot water. An engineer was sent whilst we were having breakfast, and that night we were able to enjoy a hot shower. The next morning yet again there was no hot water. As mentioned previously, the Rui Silverstre restaurant was superb, but it was a great shame that our table of six people were later joined by four tables, each with eight male, noisy golfers. This changed the atmosphere dramatically, and the staff apologised profusely whilst trying their best to keep the noise down. This is a Michelin star restaurant and this should not have happened. I understand greatly that we are just out of covid, lockdowns and furthermore that this golf course is only just back on its feet following a devastating fire. However, this does not excuse the response I have had from the hotel when I have written to them to raise these issues, and to also ask why they have not yet refunded the damage waiver… I don’t wish to copy and paste the whole response, but comments received were Our maintenance team reacted immediately to increase the temperature of the boiler ( no mention that this happened again the next morning ) Heating a pool is an additional cost, and not all pools have heating. It is up to the guest to request when booking, prior to arrival…. the management cannot presume that this is a requirement of the guest ( no acknowledgement that we weren’t given this information when booking a villa with a pool, that would have been too cold to swim in at this time of year without heating) Use of the tennis courts is included in the fee to access the Veranda and is included with the sauna, the Turkish bath and the outdoor heated pool. (No mention that the “Veranda” is also an Italian restaurant that remained closed during our stay. Something else we had not been informed of. The four bedroom villas. “With pool” are also expensive to rent, and to ask extra for this other facility is extraordinary) The “award winning” Vistas restaurant it is acknowledged that a large group also coexisted with our reservation and this did not help us to fully enjoy our dining experience. Unfortunately due to the restaurant being full for practically the entire week, we were unable to find an alternative date for our reservation, as had previously been informed by our reservations department ( this is nonsense, and in fact the week before we arrived, the reservations department contacted us to say they have had to change the day of our booking…. The “embarrassed” waiting staff also told us that in this restaurant they don’t normally take booking for so many men, or so many tables) I am still waiting for a second response from Carlos, the rooms division and owners relation manager, from whom I received this lame reply, and he didn’t even acknowledge that we had not been refunded the damage waiver….. I’m incredibly upset by this attitude to what should have been, and could have been a positively unforgettable experience. I completely understand how the hospitality industry have struggled during the very difficult times of the pandemic, but this does not excuse this attitude, nor does it mean they were the only ones to suffer. I wanted this experience for my father, and booked here because I was told it was the best. It could have been …… a one star review is indeed harsh, but I cannot ignore the terrible attitude and aftercare experience

Excelente localização, excelente decoração

Reviewed By FranciscoTaira

Aconselho vivamente
