A very quiet and friendly place with such nice hosts. This cosy place is a little outside of town but still you can walk there. There is a pool, a little restaurant (even with some typically german dishes) and the perfect german speaking hosts can organize almost everything for you. When we arrived with the minibus from Luang Prabang we just send them a whatsapp and they picked us up in town. The breakfast is great too;) The bungalows are spacious, clean and equiped with everything you need. All in all: Just great!

It is a wonderful place to stay. I showed tuk tuk driver address on my booking from my phone and he had no trouble. I don’t think it’s hard to find. Staff so lovely and helpful. So clean and relaxing. Sleep here, drink coffee and eat food across the street at Champa Laos cafe. Amazing! Stayed longer than planned just to keep enjoying.

The Nirvana Archipel Resort, with bar/restaurant, marina and animal sanctuary is located 130 km from Vientiane, the capital city of Laos, on Route13 heading towards Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang. When perusing Trip Advisor, I was excited to find reasonably priced accommodation with a pool in the heart of the dining precinct. Folks I am here to tell you this is pure puffery. It's at the end if a dirt road the finisjes in a sort of comstruction site. There are ramshackle buildings - it looks like a severe fire risk. The labelling was not clear - it said Jammee and Jammee 2. Both looked unenticing. With increasing horror I realisednthe pool was a mud hole where sewerage flows into the river. I paid in advance when I booked so no chamce of a refund. This is blatant false advertisement and I'd go as far as to call the mud hole a swimming pool as unconscionable conduct. I would rather forfeit my "bargain price" of $32 AUD and save myself thousands on medical costs for dysentry, malaria and dengue. Disgusting den.

I'm only now writing up our trip to Laos in April 2017 (!) and need to write about the Eco Lodge outside Vang Vieng. We stayed at Pi Mai Lao. It was a magical experience away from the new year madness. Clean rooms, on the river... great food in the riverside indoor/outdoor dining room. Stunningly beautiful location and really helpful owner and friendly staff. We rented bikes to begin with but then took a tiny motorbike and went exploring. It was a major highlight of our trip and I wish we had stayed longer but we couldn't. Two nights and days of heaven in the mountains.

The hotel is like so many others in the region- it has so many things that could be fixed on the cheap to improve the experience. From the door closing smoothly to the faucet that doesn’t quite connect to the vanity- a handyman could improve the experience. Otherwise, a nice basic stay.

Comfortable hotel, decent sized rooms, right in the centre of Vangvieng. Facilities (including pool) are all perfectly good. Breakfast is not suited to western guests so we tended to go out - but otherwise it was a great stay. Best feature without a doubt is the staff who are amazingly friendly and helpful. This is a good option for a family budget stay.

This was probably the worst hotel experience we've ever had. It took us more than an hour to find, as it is 20 minutes out of town on a busy, dusty road, there is no sign and the Google maps location is not accurate. We were stranded with our luggage in the dark, trucks thundering past and no hotel. We called and called the number on booking.com, no answer. We eventually found it with the help of some kind passers by who spoke Lao - it was locked up behind some ramshackle metal gates with a big 'for sale' sign in Chinese... We literally had to shout over the gate until someone came out and turned on the lights and let us in! The only people there did their best but spoke zero English. A sign in the room said we had to communicate with the hotel via their Facebook page - we did eventually get through to the owner via WhatsApp, but she was in Bangkok and didn't give a rat's ass that we had been stranded for over an hour in the dark. The rooms were fine but so, so noisy - there is a railway line being built along the road outside and the trucks just trundle past all night long. We changed to a room further away but it was still impossible to sleep. Breakfast was literally a piece of bread and some scrambled eggs and a banana. No milk for tea or (instant) coffee. It was a hostel breakfast at boutique prices. The view from the breakfast area was beautiful but the trucks still roared past and there was a massive wasps nest nearby so we beat a quick retreat. While we were eating, the hotel's cat came up to us - it had a horrible eye infection and was clearly in a lot of pain. The owner really needs to do something about the poor creature. What really topped it off was that when we contacted booking.com, they told us we couldn't complain or even leave a review because they had a 'special contract' with the owner that prevented us from doing this! Which explains why mine is the first review in months. This place was probably nice enough before the road became busy. Clearly, the owner has realised that it is no longer a viable business and is selling up, but has left it in the care of the cleaners so she can squeeze as much money out of it as possible while it's on the market. So, so dodgy.
