Things to do in Castlemaine
It's a funny thing, but although we have travelled to Vietnam several times, we have never eaten Bahn Mi as delicious as the ones we have enjoyed recently in Castlemaine, Victoria. Crisp bread roll, pulled pork,or chicken Vietnamese mint, chillies, delicious sauce, its cheap, yummy takeaway food prepared as you wait in a tiny little shop hidden at the back of an arcade.Filling, but messy, you could eat this delicious treat at one of the little tables outside the shop, bu why not take it with a drink to the peaceful and beautiful Castlemaine Public Gardens to make your day complete?

Vietnamese cuisine in the heart of Castlemaine, Vic, offering a seasonal menu.
Beautifully designed venue with an interesting menu. We visited with a HUGE birthday group. Phamily has a policy of food coming out whenever itâs ready which was interesting but left a lot of down time. Drinks were expensive, BYO would be a welcome improvement. It was all a bit random and expensive on the whole. Might be better for a smaller group. Unsure if weâll visit again.

Let's be honest here. This place is not really a restaurant at all. It's a take-away dumpling shop with a couple of tables squeezed in and there's no table service. The proprietors take their show on the road to various farmer's markets in the surrounding goldfields towns and their little yum cha style dishes are popular. I've given this place a "Very Good" because I'm judging it by local regional standards. If this place was in in Melbourne where there are unlimited high quality yum cha venues I'd only be giving it an "Average".

We didn't have high expectations on entering this rather large local Chinese restaurant. We were delighted Quick friendly service, large range of choice of dishes, tasty fresh delicioys food with vegies that actually taste like vegies - fresh and sweetAll in all a very good dinner

I had dinner here on a busy Saturday night with family after not having been to this restaurant for a few months. Previously, we have always had positive experiences. We were seated in a dining room where the tables had been crammed in, with barely enough room for people to walk between our table and the one next to it. This meant every time the wait staff walked past, all the people on one side of our table had their chairs or bodies hit. We acknowledge that this wasnât done on purpose, however the layout of the room could be adjusted to prevent this from occurring. It was obvious as soon as we were seated that the tables were too close together. It made for an uncomfortable and unpleasant experience for my family members on that side of the table. Service was incredibly slow and even though it was extremely busy, they could have put extra staff on shift to address the busyness apparent in the bookings (in addition to their usual Saturday night attendance numbers). All the entrees came out at different times with one entree completely forgotten (a soup dish that we specifically requested as an entrée â not a main). After asking wait staff multiple times how long it would be for this to dish to arrive, we cancelled the order when we were told the mains were ready. The chive dumplings were soggy and too doughy - barely edible (we ate half, only because everyone had a taste). We provided some feedback about this dish to the waitress who was very rude and said they are the same as they always are, but then told us her sister (the main cook/owner) was in Thailand and they had an apprentice in the kitchen. She made a big deal out of it in front of all the other diners, speaking very loudly and refused to give us a discount or replacement. She even said that she would have to pay for the dish herself if we didnât! Absolutely ridiculous and such poor customer service. Even if the staff want to stand by the quality of the food, itâs no reason to treat customers so poorly. The mains werenât up to the usual standard and servings around the table were smaller than usual. Itâs a shame that this horrible experience has left us not wanting to go back. The main reason is how the waitress treated my family and I, and unfortunately that type of behaviour leaves a bad taste in one's mouth.Thank you once again for your comments. Weâll try the best to improve our services. We look forward to welcoming you next time.

We are currently closed for our Summer break and a trip to Thailand. Open again from midday Wednesday February 20th.
Absolutely up there with the best Thai I have had, ever (including in Thailand). My husband and I enjoyed a pre-show dinner here in May and it was lovely. I absolutely have to recommend the warm chicken salad with a peanutty, coconutty, crustaceany (sauced) sauce that I would gladly eat the rest of my life without complaint! We also got a duck dish - and, although a little light-handed on the duck meat (I thought it was going to be a duck breast, sliced up, but I don't think there was that much meat), it was very tasty. We had an assortment of starters on a platter which hit the spot too.A really lovely and unforgettable meal.
