The Belfry occupies an early 1900s school house originally built to educate the farm children of Montgomery Center. Over 100 years later the Belfry has given this space a second life with one of the top pub's in the Northeast Kingdom. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, you immediately get the sense everyone knows each other. The food is delicious, specializing in elevated pub fare. The blacked chicken pasta's are a go-to entree, for appetizers try the potato skins, the are brilliantly crispy. As some people have mentioned the wait can get rather long as the space is not very large, plan accordingly.

My wife and I are dinner here while staying in the area. this is definitely a locals kind of place and we enjoyed the more rustic atmosphere. The place was clean and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Chicken wings with maple hot sauce were excellent and cooked perfectly. My wife said her burger was good but dry and somewhat bland. Fries and onion rings were really good. Service was prompt and very friendly. If you are looking for a nice, causal place with good food, I would definitely recommend the snow shoe.

The Tavern is absolutely perfect! Super charming with wood and glass windows that give you stunning views of the river creek and surrounding mountains. They have a nice combination of low and tall wooden tables that makes the Tavern super cozy and you have the feeling that you are in the countryside. Not only they have a fantastic place with plenty of parking, they also have the best food and service in the area. We loved the food and absolutely all 7 plates from my group were made to perfection! I had the lobster stuffed sole and it was the best prepared sole I ever ate! My husband and my children (who are not so easy to please) were also amazed by the food and ate all of it! My friends also loved it. Even the onion rings were perfect! We normally don't eat fried foods, but this was really light, crispy and delicious! The man who received us was super pleasant (perhaps the owner), and the service was perfect! The price is amazingly cheap for what they offer! Drinks were perfectly done and they had plenty of choices for drinks. This place is a bit outside the Jay peak Resort but totally worth the 5 min drive! Amazing! And the people who said this place was not for kids? OMG, we had a baby and 2 kids and it was really the best service ever!
