It is a small-medium size, it has air conditioner and the decor seems frankly poor, not much thought or love into it, with the bar as the main attraction. It is Spanish Food. We started with prepared camparis to drink, a liquor from herbs, a bit bitter, so it had a mix of something sweet which made it nice. I ordered a shrimp stew and a salad on the side since it is served with rice only. My aunt ordered the fish in green sauce, it had a very large piece of cooked potato. My uncle ordered the calamari in its ink and my other aunt the octopus in its ink. They were advised by the oldest aunt to order a half-order because the full portions are large...so there were a lot of left overs because "they don't listen" :-) . I was offered a lot of calamari and octopus, I tasted them but I don't really care for either or. I expected a better shrimp stew, it was average, the best I had is in another restaurant, in another Estate. I almost flipped when a woman on the table behind me started to smoke. It is an indoor setting so when I could I asked the server if one was allowed to smoke inside -hoping the answer was negative and he could tell her- but he said "yes, do you need an ashtray?". So I talked to myself to calm down and realize I am a tourist and I need to respect their ways...so I ignored the smell, although when I noticed 30 minutes later the same woman had 3 cigarette butts on the ashtray and was starting her 4th I felt like throwing the contents of my glass her way...I didn't...and was glad to hear my elders were ready to leave. It took a long time for the waiter to bring me the bill, we were all getting impatient. Starting with the name, one "r" is pronounced soft in Spanish and the restaurant personnel pronounce it hard, which would make the spelling a double "r "...Akelarre, not Akelare...

Gracias a más de 30 años al servicio de los paladares veracruzanos, conocemos la fórmula ganadora para satisfacer los apetitos de nuestros comensales.
Food was quite good - I enjoyed the grilled fish which was cooked nicely, though the vegetables were a little over boiled . Service was good with some language issues due to my lack of Spanish. The restaurant has a nice casual atmosphere that was very friendly

My emphasis is food, prepared and presented as it would be at a local home. Having visited restaurants and homes in Veracruz for twenty years, I can say this is it. In fact, friends kid me about paying the restaurant "when we have the same thing at home." Fortunately, I have both. I have been to El Bayo numerous times, alone, with family, and with friends. The restaurant became one of my primary destinations in all Mexico when local people directed me there years ago.Not having Arroz a la Tumbada at El Bayo would be like not going to Veracruz! That is my minimum. If I'm in in the city long enough, I might have something different on a second visit.Again, the emphasis is food, the Veracruz way. If you want a fancy or "upscale" experience, or, especially, if you are uncomfortable with seafood presentations that may be new to you, don't go.Authentic food; excellent value (Dallas has the same Arroz a la Tumbada at $US 18 a plate!)

We are a restaurant that specializes in the preparation of seafood and Veracruz breakfasts with the best "picadas" of #Veracruz. We´ll be glad to seeing you at #PalapaPerea.
We had lunch, fish of course in Veracruz, where the fish is located caught. It was delightful. This is a neighborhood restaurant where you eat under the palapa or thatched roof. We ate there several times and never encountered any tourists or norte Americanos. The staff's English is not sure, but we never had any difficulty at all communicating. Thank you very much for your visit and your coments.Kind regards...

The place is located in side the Emporio Hotel, to be honest I was not sure to go in and visit but my hunger maybe do it. I have the shrimp aguachile and it was good, and I also had the tostadas of tuna, octopus and fish the best had to be the octopus since is not something easy to cook, the food was good but if you come to a port you can expect something more fresh, but the guys Jorge P and Rey David mane my state amazing the service was on spot and the friendliness was very welcome, it is hard to find good service in some places near a port but in this hotel made the stay welcome. The combination of quality and experience offered at El Gaucho Restaurant and a unique view of the Bay of Veracruz combine to create Mardel. The restaurant offers seafood specialties, argentinean grill and internationally influenced dishes with local and
I was walking along the coast side in Veracruz, looking for someplace to have a hearthy breakfast, put the "palapas" around the Aquarium are very awful, then i found Mardel... it barley goes noticed because it has a very little sign, but as you are entering you can feel that you are in a different place; the decoration is great, the service is attentive, and the food is not out of this world but great for the city's standards, and if you add the seaview, the good quality and the overall cleaness you have a great place to have a good breakfast and to relax while enjoying it, totally recommended!

After 4 years of not visiting Veracruz, I read some negative comments about this restaurant. I'm glad I still decided to come here again. I love it!!! We asked this time "Pulpo con pure de camote", "Ceviche coco mango", "Platano relleno de mariscos", "Tarta de elote", "Ensalada de mariscos", "Cerveza Sur". 2 people $850 mxp. Would go back again and again. Hi, thank you very much for your visit and your comments, we hope to see you back soon!

Went here on the first night in veracruz. Food was tasty. Music was good. Server Luis Maldonado was very patient and helpful explaining the different foods on the menu. I am not familiar with veracruz cuisine and needed some explanations on the different ways they prepare the fish.Hello, thank you very much for your visit and your comments, we hope to see you soon!
