Staff gossips about everyone and each other, customers hear it all. Drinks are never made right, if you ask it to be remade the eye rolling starts. For a Starbucks this is a very poor example of what the company says it is.

There are a couple of small tables, but most people just pick up their fantastic breads, desserts, and sandwiches. The champagne cake is wonderful, the bread much better than supermarket bread, and the turkey-cranberry sandwich spectacular. Order early, they don't make the sandwich after 2 or so.

While visiting friends, fellow foodies actually, they told me about Good Friends and warned that it was a 30 minute drive from their home up in the Sierra Nevada mountains. They said it would be worth the drive. They were right!
Their appetizers included oysters and muscles, very meaty and tasty. The egg drop soup had a great broth but I really don't care to swallow a ton of veggies with it, one of their very few downsides.
Tossed green salad is a rarity in most of these places, the salad here was fresh and crisp with a few choices of dressing. There were sushi rolls as well, not a big variety but tasty. Some of the signs were a bit off - the vegetable fried rice had a ton of pork in it but since I am not a vegetarian it was just fine.
Like most buffets of this sort the dishes with meat were mostly chicken. Heck, they even had a pan full of southern fried chicken, go figure. The chicken dishes were excellent, nothing dried out and there were also pork and beef dishes.
It wasn't the biggest variety that I have seen but certainly one of the best that I have enjoyed. The tapioca pudding for dessert was pretty good too, didn't taste like it came out of a can.
I think the tab came to something like $45 for three of us. Not a bad deal at all. If you don't care for buffet, you can order off of a regular menu.

Hawg Dawg's Gourmet Dawgs Burgers and Steaks

Reviewed By Stephanie M - Valley Springs, California

Four of us went to Hawg Dawgs. It was the second time we've been there but it has been a few years. The atmosphere is not what you would call typical because there really isn't any atmosphere. Nothing to take note of there. There are several tables that are very tall with very tall chairs... there is a bar counter and food is served there also. The restaurant is in a strip mall and had large windows facing the parking lot so while there is plenty of light there isn't much to really look at other than the parking lot. They do play music however. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. I ordered a burger with grilled onions and homemade potato chips, my husband ordered a Reuben Sandwich, grandson (age 14) ordered a deep fried macaroni and cheese burger with fries, my son (age 40) ordered a Scooter Trash burger and chips . We all enjoyed our food immensely and I ended up bringing half my burger home with most of the chips. The burgers were huge! The only negatives were : 1. the wait time between ordering and getting our meal was a very long time considering there weren't that many people in the restaurant but we drank our iced tea and chatted while waiting, the waitress did apologize for the wait. 2. It could really use some sprucing up with some paint and maybe some charm. We will definately go back again and soon to try some of the other items on the menu.

If you like Thai food, you must try the Thai House.

My wife and I went there on the recommendation of the owner of Robin's Nest B&B in San Andreas. Thanks Karen...great Thai food at reasonable prices. Our server, Christopher, was a lot of fun and added to what was a great customer experience.

Try the Panang Beef Curry; you'll ask for seconds!!

Eddie's

My husband and I ate lunch here and while the food was very good it was a bit overpriced. Interesting atmosphere but very small room with just a few tables around the edge of the room in front of the windows with a view of the parking lot and the gas station across the street. There is also a bar that you can enjoy a glass of beer with your meal if you choose to sit there. There are also tables outside in a small courtyard that is also available to other businesses.

They even have homemade gelato which I have yet to try, but really want to! The staff is very friendly and makes you feel so welcome.

145 Club Steakhouse and Bar

Reviewed By Stephanie M - Valley Springs, California

This little dinner house and lounge is nestled in a very old bank of store front buildings are quite dated, maybe some as far as turn of the century (1900's). It looks like a small town honky tonk from the outside and not very appealing. It's located in Valley Springs, CA which is in Gold Rush country in the foothills to the Sierras. Upon entering you notice the room is small but has a warm feeling and immediately you are greeted by the bartender as the bar is to the left of the door. The dining room is located just beyond the bar and while most bars are pretty dark this one is light enough to see very well yet dark enough for ambiance. The waitress immediately appears, is friendly and professional and hands out menus and takes drink orders. My husband ordered a Brandy Old Fashioned and they didn't know how to make that so they immediately came to him and asked him how it was made, he explained and they followed his directions precisely and he said it was a perfect Brandy Old Fashioned. The bartender/Manager was young and he came and sat and chatted with my husband for a few minutes as my husband was a retired bartender.. The waitress took our orders and 3 of us ordered from the "sandwich" section, I ordered the prime rib sandwhich and in lieu of fries I asked for salad, my friends ordered french dip and barbequed beef sandwhiches, my husband ordered the New York stead which is a 10oz steak and while the price was around 18.00 (high for this neck of the woods) it included a 5 course dinner! The rest of us paid around 9.00 each for our meals which included fries or salad and very generous portions and large sandwiches that were either on french rolls or chibata. My husbands steak dinner came with a homemade vegetable beef soup which had huge pieces of beef and vegetables in it, salad, baked potato with butter and sour cream as well as an ice cream sundae for dessert. The food was excellent, it was hot and there was no delay in getting it. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. As we finished our meal a band began to set up across the small room and as it was a Friday night I assume they have dancing etc later in the evening. Every thing was spotless and very cordial. We were all very impressed with the 145 Club as this is a fairly new place in town. The only reason I did not grant 5 stars is due to the inability of the bartender to make a Brandy Old Fashioned but we will visit again and I may edit my rating if they remember it!

Seriously didn't expect much. Went in to order a take away pizza. My partner suggested I have a beer while we waited. Management was knowledgable, friendly and enthusiastic. There was a large assortment of beers and nine craft beers on tap. All reasonably priced. You can order a sampler of four beers to taste. My wife did that. I had a pint of Samuel Adams Octoberfest and a pint of St. Florian which is brewed at nearby Windsor. Both were outstanding. We decided to eat the pizza in situ because we were enjoying the restaurant so much. The pizza was excellent. Can't remember having such a good time in a long time.
