A splurge worthy vacation in a medieval atmosphere

Reviewed By Tom12345678x

The establishment performs well in all areas - hotel and restaurant - but subject to the price of services charged - that is the minimum obligation. The relevant question is do you get value for your money as the establishment charges ca 2,5-4 times the price what a well performing countryside hotel / mansion - in swedish gästgiveri / slott - charges you. The first third of the price would be settled by delivering that "standard" standard in rooms and restaurant. The second third could be settled by the luxury and comfort of the inventories in rooms and restaurant. The last third would then have to be accomplished by the well preserved medieval atmosphere which is tangibly present in this location. The restaurant offers local dishes - though small portions - but served in a delicate manner in a historically impressive hall. Subject to my visit the bottom line in this study is that the establishment is a destination one has to see during ones lifetime and as it is said behind the big water in America - its splurge worthy... Check in was very slow and long ques in covid times.

Pricey for if I am nice a mediocre hotel in

Reviewed By kj11an

We had to stay at a hotel while in Vadstena instead of with our in-laws because of Corona:( The hotel was 2035 sek for one night, a Tuesday in low season October. We had to pay 350 sek for an extra bed for our son whom is 8 I was expecting something really nice for that price... boy was I surprised. It should be added that the hotel was in no way even near capacity. it should be mentioned that I booked via luxuryboutiqehotel.. which re-routed me to booking.com and I had not paid attention to this, during the check-in process the women behind the desk was very rude about the whole thing and said "NO" we are not on the website you are mentioning you booked via booking.com.... (I went back to check after and saw that I had indeed found it on that website)... customer service is debatable..!!!:( On the walk down to the room, you walk on a very stained and not flat (so be careful not to trip) wall to wall carpet, it felt like I was in a retirement home more than a hotel. The room was so small that when the extra bed was put up there literally was no space to move around. Also the bed was along a very hot radiator ... and because the bed was in the way for the radiator the room got very cold, (at least this is the conclusion we drew) the floor was freezing. When we checked in we got no information about the spa so I am unsure of the name "spa"... and what it means I wold not go here if you are looking for a spa!!! The one positive note is I had asked for quiet room and I got this....I hope I won't have to go back.. next time I will use airbnb as we had done the previous time we needed a place to stay because of corona.

Hotell Dahlstromska Garden

"Hotell Dahlströmska Gården bed and breakfast does not only provide a place to stay, it has its own exiting history. The houses are very well preserved and the atmosphere indicates great care in the old days. Dahlströmska Gården has 11 rooms with 25 beds in total. There are single rooms and double rooms and some for up to four persons. A couple of rooms have en suite WC and shower while others share these facilities. Dahlströmska Gården is regarded as cultural heritage and since 2012 both the exterior and the interior parts are protected by law. The original layout is hardly changed at all and every crafted detail has a story to tell. Rooms with harmonic proportions, a peaceful garden and breakfast in the old dining-hall. Warm welcome!"

Wonderful b&b

Reviewed By PapiyaC993

This is a beautiful bed and breakfast. The house was originally built in 1905 and the B&B has retained the old charm. The rooms are large, comfortable and clean. The owners are friendly and provide a reasonable breakfast which you can eat either indoors or outdoors (weather permitting). If you come during the cooler/colder months the original wood fired heaters are lit up which, I think, would be a treat to experience.

A rustic stay in a lakeside town

Reviewed By FlyBalletGuy

My experience is consistent with the older reviews here. The hotel is a cafe with several rooms in a low, red wooden building that looked like an overgrown lakeside cottage. Befitting that, the rooms are simple, but quite adequate. Wifi works, but services after the cafe closes (6 pm on the day I was there) require calling or emailing. If you're looking for a more full-service option, this isn't it. I agree that temperature or noise could be a problem, but it was not for me. My room had a fan that did the trick for circulation, and I heard a few footfalls, but that was it. Location is excellent for the castle - it is literally across the street. Breakfast was fine - the usual Scandinavian fare of bread, meat, cheese and cereal. When I was there, the hotel's guests were largely Swedish, and it was nice to feel like part of the culture.

Central, clean and hassle-free

We stayed in the "outhouse", I had the little room, my friend had a family room even though he was alone - no extra price. Worked really well, no problems picking up the keys, very clean and fresh, so close to town, easy to pay and get back into the traffic (cycling through) Would recommend it for anyone..

Établissement basique sans personnel

Reviewed By 17mathildec

Rekommenderas varmt!

Fine, but perhaps a bit too expensive for what you get

Reviewed By Liz R

This place is advertised as 'hotel standard but at a reasonable price' but is basically somewhere between a hostel and B&B. Here's a summary: Location: Perfect, right in the centre of town. Room: On the small side, but clean and decorated in a cosy turn-of-the-century style, lots of character. Beds were comfy and had proper blinds to keep out the light, so we slept well, which is the most important thing for me. TV and DVD player. The en-suite bathroom is tiny (too small for 2 people to stand in at the same time) and looks a bit tatty. But the shower worked well. NB: The room was not cleaned or tidied, or the towels changed, during our 2-night stay. Breakfast: Controversial! This is not your typical B&B deal. There is unlimited cereal, crackerbread and boiled eggs, but bread, ham and cheese are rationed – you get a little tupperware box with your allocation inside. No fruit, jam, or cooked options. In practice it was enough, but it felt quite stingy – like staying with a mean old aunt who doesn't really want you there. You're also expected to wash up and tidy away after yourself. Service: There is none, really. The set-up is designed so that you don't need to meet any staff – keys and instructions left in an envelope to be picked up, with a phone number to call if there are any problems. All in all, this place is fine if you want a convenient, no-frills base from which to explore Vadstena on a budget. If you want a personal service, with the little extras that make you feel loved, you should probably look elsewhere. It was fine for us, but I think it's probably a bit overpriced for what you get – especially with the stingy breakfast.
