Find out what Indonesian restaurants to try in Bunnik. Bunnik ( pronunciation (help·info)) is a municipality and a village in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. The recorded history of the village dates back nearly 2000 years, when the Romans constructed a fort at Fectio (now Vechten) with a harbour facing the river Rhine, which marked the border of the Roman Empire. The fort developed into a thriving trading centre, which continued to exist after the Romans abandoned the fort in the fourth century. Subsequently, the area was occupied by the Frisians and the Franks. In the 8th and 9th century the villages of Bunninchem (Bunnik), Lodichem (Odijk) en Wercundia (Werkhoven) developed.

Lovely evening. Delicious food. Excellent service. My husband is vegetarian and I have a garlic allergy. We informed the restaurant when we booked and they suggested we have the chefs menu - 3 courses, chefs selection, set price. The food was superb. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We re-visited this restaurant with high hopes. I used to eat in this restaurant a lot about 15-20 years ago when this was the top Indonesian restaurant in Utrecht. I am afraid that my experience this time was the complete opposite to the ones I have had previously, and this restaurant has definitely moved to the bottom place. We were shocked with the service and although the staff were friendly, they were totally out of there comfort zone and seemed unexperienced and unprofessional. I was very surprised that the quality level of food was so different than it used to be.We were extremely disappointed with the overall experience and I have made the following list of issues, some small and some big, but my main complaints are really about the food, which was extremely disappointing for me.We had different sate's for starters and for main course a small rijsttafel and Ikan Bali.1. The 35 euro's bottle of wine we ordered was put in a bucket of tap water without any ice, so the wine was at room temperature.2. The flowers on the table were fake and the table cloth was only a small strip covering the centre of the table.3. There was a mismatch of all different crockery and glasware.4. We had to wait about 50 minutes in between starters and main course.5. During our dinner there was a constant coming and going of food delivery moped drivers, which I found rather annoying as they pass the tables with large plastic bags and helmets on their way to deliver the food orders. This was I think the reason why there was a 50 minute wait between starter and main course. It felt that the food deliveries are almost more important than the dining guests in the restaurant.6.The sate ajam was very thinly sliced and totally bland, it didn't have the griddle/grill marks on it and wasn't marinated at all, the sate sauce on this was tasteless and very thin and watery.7. The very expensive sate kambing, normally my favourite, was definitely not goat as advertised, but instead a cheap shortcut was taken and thin slices of tough dry mutton was used, there was no doubt about it. This was my main issue of the evening as I felt being lied to.8. The ikan bali, mackerel in chili sauce, had a nice spicy flavour but the sauce was watery and the fish was dry, my question was how can mackerel be dry?9. The atjar tjampur was underpickled.10. The gado gado had a lot of watery beansprouts in it and again, the peanut sauce on top was thin and tasteless.I could live with all these complaints but for a bill of 114 euro's I feel that these complaints are valid.

Mooi Zeist is, in my opinion, the best Indonesian restaurant in the Utrecht area. The restaurant is located in a quiet neighboorhood of Zeist, they have parking facilities and an outside terrace (perfect for warm summer evenings). I can highly recommend every item on their menu, it's all delicious and made with love. The ambiance and chairs in a restaurant, to me, are very important; the ambiance here is good! They have good lighting, comfortable seats and it's cosy. One of the most important things (nowadays), you can actually wine and dine here without anyone breathing down your neck.
