so we were visiting a store nearby, and there was the need for a lunch. we have no knowledge of Utica, so we cruised Varick St, which turns out to have a large number of restaurants and bars. Zeina's looked interesting, and there was good music coming out to the street, so in we went. they served small cups of coffee as a sort of introduction to what would follow. the coffee was great. we ordered fries with garlic. a huge serving, sinfully greasy, but also sinfully good. I had special chicken souvlakia, and she had a gyro. generous portions, and ever so good.
a great find. thank you Utica

The Tailor and the Cook is one of the brightest spots in Utica's already rich Culinary nightlife. Attentive service and a comfortable atmosphere support provocative cuisine produced with the finest local products, whenever possible. The management of The Tailor and the Cook is devoted to offering their clientele great food and a path to the farmers and producers who make it happen. The relationship between the food we eat and where it is produced is of growing concern to many. The Tailor and the Cook brings the many bounties of CNY's rich Agriculture to the forefront, giving the public the opportunity to know where there food comes from and how it is produced. Featuring Local Product whenever possible, menus change based on seasonality, freshness, and availability of local goods. A rich and generous selection of Beer, Wine, and Spirits round out the Culinary Package.
We came here with my daughter and her friends. According to my daughter it was the no. 1 restaurant in UTICA. I dont' know if it is the number 1 but definitely it was very good.
Ambience is fantastic. Low level lighting, nice bar, not noisy.
They are a small restaurant and have only 40 spots or so and it is imperative that you make a reservation. We did our reservation online and they hold it for only 15 minutes past your reserved time. Being small also means you are quite close to other diners.
The food is really good. My picky wife said that not everyone could cook mussels properly and she did give a head's up on the quality of the mussels she was having.
All foods were locally sourced around the area. Thus the restaurant supports local businesses.
The menu and the foods are original dishes which you may not see elsewhere. The presentation was wonderful.
All these, locally sourced food, original dishes, great ambience, small restaurant means that something has to give and it is the price. It is not cheap. I would consider this place as a treat for a special occasion. Portions are on the small side.
A word on parking. They do not seem to have their own parking lot. It is a street parking affair.
Just be aware though, all these come at a price!

Our second visit...... Even better than the first. Each course was delicious. It is evident that Danny loves what he does and puts his heart into each dish! Will definitely be back.

Went here for a birthday dinner - excellent food all the way around. Nice, crisp salad, good soup, perfect filets for two in our party. I chose the chicken riggies, just because I had never had them. They were wonderful. Creamy sauce, tender chicken. Very good meals all the way around. A little pricey for our budget, but great place for a special celebration.

Very tasty food. We had the beet salad, pork and beans, and a pork special. All were very good, as were the side dishes.

Went here on a Saturday morning around 11:00 AM and got the last two seats available. Mentioned to the waitress about how busy it was and she said that there's usually a line out the door! Food is great, had a short stack of pancakes with bacon and a side of home fries. Pancakes were some of the best I've had, bacon was crispy without being over-cooked, couldn't even get to much of the home fries since I was stuffed.... pancakes were a nice size. Coffee was great and service was top-notch. Definitely recommended.

Hello and welcome to Nail Creek Pub & Brewery. We opened our doors in March of 2008 with the intent of bringing craft beer to the Mohawk Valley. At that time, most people said that the areas citizens didn't want craft beer. They told us that nobody would buy it. Luckily we proved them wrong! Its been a fun ride and only getting better. Although we are mostly known for our large beer selection, we take out food VERY seriously. Our menu has evolved over the years from basic pub food to a perfect mix of comfort and contemporary foods. We decided to go with a smaller menu that we could perfect and keep absolutely fresh. If you haven't had our burger you are in for surprise. We use locally pastured grass fed beef and Utica Bread Brioche to deliver the freshest and highest quality burger possible. Be sure to check out our mussels and frittes available Thursday night through Saturday. The Prince Edward Island Mussels are steamed and served in a white wine, garlic, butter sauce. They are served with grilled bread, frites and two homemade aoili's. On Wednesday nights we offer a gourmet dinner. The weekly dish is always a surprise! Regular Menu also available. Every Sunday we offer Utica's best brunch. Our brunch menu is ever evolving and will always excite and please. Sunday's in Utica are alive and well, and we would be honored to have you spend yours with us.
Went for the Sunday brunch and several of the things we ordered were fine but there's no excuse for cold home fries. Everything was over-salted as well. Service was good, nice ambience. But perhaps they needed a little more help in the kitchen... everything we ordered (party of four) was served at about room temp.

This place is tremendous and should not be as much of a secret as it is. The flavors are always vibrant and well-balanced. Have enjoyed every single dish I have ordered. Service is exceptional: well-informed, quick, and patient even if the place is packed and the one server working has all tables full and several to go orders. It’s our new go-to for date nights.

While in Utica on vacation, my husband and I decided to eat at Swifty's in the downtown area. It was amazing! The first night we ordered the Irish Nachos as an appetizer and it was HUGE! We really could have made it our meal but my husband also ordered the Black and Bleu Burger and I ordered a salad, both of which were delicious but we were too full to eat it all! Because it was so good and reasonably priced, we went a second night. My husband ordered the lasagne and said it was about the best he had ever eaten! I ordered the Broiled Seafood Platter which was also delicious. I totally recommend this place if you are in the area!

Easily my wife's family's favorite local spot. They are always more than welcoming to all of us. We haven't been as often as we have liked to since we had a baby but when we come into town it's usually a night out for my wife and I. We sit at the bar, all the waitstaff recognize us so they take care of us. It is a wonderful atmosphere, very nice people and the food is beyond delicious!!!!
I like their specials, their bread and butter is to die for, the eggplant appetizer, the greens, I could go on and on. I've never had it but I'm told the salmon is by far the best around.
This is a must try if you're around town!!!10 stars if I could
