La Frontera

Reviewed By Brightpool

On Monday, May 30, 2016, my wife and I took her son and daughter to La Frontera for a family dinner after we visited their Dad and paternal grandmother’s graves.La Frontera has been on that corner for many years, so the parking lot and building make it look like they might not be open. Even so, they are open and doing well, from what we could see. It wasn’t full during our visit later than the usual lunch time, but it wasn’t empty, either. The waitress was fairly new to the restaurant, but she was careful to ask the right questions to get our order right. My wife and step-daughter both like certain things on the side, and our waitress asked to be sure she understood which things needed to be served separately. The food was good, as always. We did get only a small handful of chips to dip into their salsa, so they could have done more.I had the day’s special, but after seeing the three smothered burrito combination my son-in-law had, I made a mental note to order that one next time. We all enjoyed our meals and will definitely go to La Frontera, again, whether it’s this one in West Valley or the one nearer to our home in Sandy. The one thing that I would say marred our visit was when I went to check out. The cashier let me wait for several minutes at the cash register while he went to discuss our waitress’s way of filling out a ticket. He said that her way of doing it didn’t make the total obvious, even when I pointed it out to him. He mentioned that he had been there just over a month and that she had started just about a week before our visit, and she needed to learn how to fill out a ticket. I was surprised that he made all those observations and complaints in front of a customer. I think he could have done just as well by saying only that he needed to take a minute to clarify something with the waitress, not all the issues he had with her way of doing things. I think I would have felt less concern about having to wait those few minutes if he had kept the dirty laundry to himself.Even so, when we are in the area, we’ll just as likely head for La Frontera, again, as we usually do. When you hunger for Mexican food and you are in the neighborhood, be sure to drop in and enjoy a meal there, too.Tip: The entrance is just barely west of the intersection of Bangerter Highway and 3500 South, so be sure to turn north into the parking lot just before (east of) their sign and the building.

Recently visited with two coworkers. Service was quick and friendly. The food was quick even after we ordered it. Even at lunch time with a decent sized crowd inside i was impressed. Low key restaurant I won't have an issue bringing young children inside. I have the smothered bean and cheese burrito with rice and beans - it was too much to eat in one sitting. Will not hesitate in returning to eat here again.

The service we received was very good. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and answered all the questions we had and kept our drinks full. The food however is a differ story. The loaded mash potatoes were like warm at best. The server did bring us new ones but seemed like they just microwaved them to heat them up. 4 us ordered steaks and only 1 was cooked properly. They were over cooked and had a hard crust on the outside. The flavor of the meat tasted off like they weren't fresh, maybe frozen and thawed (not sure if that is what they do or not). The appetizers that we orders however did taste great.

I cannot believe this restaurant has no reviews, let me just say, if you’re looking for AUTHENTIC Mexican food, THIS IS THE PLACE!!It’s not fancy, it’s a bit on the pricey side, not much English spoken here, but this place is clean, good service, casual, friendly and the food is fantastic, hence the 5 star rating!! Do not look for Americanized Mexican food......NO Guacamole! Lots of fish dishes, very fresh!I had the Fish and Shrimp Ceviche, medium size (huge), excellent! We also had Carne Tacos and Shrimp Empanadas. This is absolutely a must do if you like authentic Mexican food!

Ordered take out. had enchiladas and quesdilla with chicken. Food must be made from scratch because i had to wait a good 20 minutes to get my food. The portions are huge and well prepared. This is not a fast food restaurant. Adequate seating but it fills up fast as this is a restaurant the locals prefer. Total bill for both was around $17.00 but well worth it.

First time we have been to this restaurant, and it does seem by the other reviews that Tuesday is the day to come. On this day it wasn't particularly busy (the neighboring restaurant sure was though), so we didn't have to wait long. I had the fish taco plate with rice and beans, and well that's exactly what it was. Nothing that was out of this world. Nothing like oh this is the best refried beans ever made. One small consolation is the salsa was quite tasty, but that's not enough to warrant much more than a three dot review

My husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant when we were looking for the billiards hall next store. We were highly disappointed in the billiards hall, but saw that Acapulco's had pretty good reviews. From the outset, this place looks shady, and we almost didn't enter. But we were glad that we did. The interior is eclectic and quirky, in a grandma sort of way. The lady who greeted and served us was very cordial. The price is reasonable, we came out having spent $25 for the two of us, including tip.And the food, it was awesome! My husband ordered a smothered burrito, I had a combo platter. I can't think of better Mexican food that I have had in Utah.I didn't give five stars because the menus were dirty, the carpet needed vacuuming and the bathroom needed attention. The service was slow, but that is because they had a large group that came in just before us. And yes, the neighborhood made us a little nervous. If I was just rating on the food and the server, five stars easily. We will definitely go back.

Tasty and spicy Mexican food. The refried beans are actually edible and delicious. I love the enchiladas and burritos, but the tacos are nice as well. It can get crowded so come early. The restaurant is clean and the service is prompt. Prices are reasonable.
