Uruapan is the second largest city in the Mexican state of Michoacán. It is located at the western edge of the Purépecha highlands, just to the east of the Tierra Caliente Region. Since the colonial period, it has been an important city economically due its location. The city was conquered by the Spanish in 1522, when the last Purépecha ruler fled the Pátzcuaro area to here. The modern city was laid out in 1534 by Friar Juan de San Miguel. It played an important role in the War of Independence, and was the capital of Michoacán during the French Intervention. Today it is the center of Mexico’s avocado growing region, with most of the crop distributed from here nationally and internationally.

Hotel dining room - same name of hotel
Have not stayed in the hotel but haver enjoyed a number of great meals in the restaurant. Ask for an outdoor talbe.
Kitchen specializes in fresh trout from the uncontaminated Rio Cupatitzio which springs out of the earth only fifty meters from the hotel. Generous portions, attentive service.

This is an outstanding restaurant. Clean, spacious, good decor, indoor or outdoor Seating, excellent service, good prices and ... outstanding dishes. A wide range of steak dishes of the highest quality. I have tried many ... and the most interesting ... is APORREADILLO, a traditional dish from the nearby Apatzingan region.
Mariachis present on occasion. A good location for business entertainment or social.
Parking on site. (tip the parking attendant)

I arrived here cranky-hungry and the menu offered plenty of possibilities for rectifying the situation, but I quickly decided upon an omelette, and it was one of the best I've had anywhere. Have popped in for coffee on a few other occasions in Uruapan, so I consider this a good dependable and friendly place, right on the plaza.

On a trip to Patzcuaro, Michoacan, with my young sons, I introduced them to Mexican "street food" inside the public market on the north side of the big main plaza. Here, at the Mercado de Antojitos, inside the market proper, the merchants and vendors take repast at a bunch of stalls with steaming, cafeteria-style what-not's, all based around the corn kitchen's concept of "little bits." Tacos, enchiladas, finger food, tingas, asadas, and so forth. The boys plopped up on big cushioned seats and the senoras were smiling and carrying on, you'd thought an old friend had dropped in. Not only were the prices less precious if not downright bargain, the senoras keep piling on the food. Look for the stall that has the best business and you can't miss. This is one of the last vestiges of traditional Mexican fare. No frills, just the real thing.

If you are visiting Uruapan, it is likely that you will go to the lovely national park in the centre of town. A short walk from the main park entrance will take you to Economica Comida Mary at number 63 Calle Independencia.
A very large, popular restaurant, it was packed at lunch time, we got the last available table. A delicious comida corrida of rice, baked chicken, potatoes, beans, salad, tortillas and aguas frescas cost 50 pesos each, which at the current exchange rate is about $4. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive.
Highly recommended.

This place have a wide range of ice creams and ice pop "paletas" made with local and exotic fruits. Like the avocado-maracuya, passion fruit-vanilla, coffee and my favorite: macadamia nut.
If you visit the national park, at one of the entries there's a small business that offers the Urani ice snacks.

We wanted to try a new place on our visit to this city, and we found this one.
They need to order their ideas, they want to do a lot, but the Delivery is kinda poor, and too expensive for this.
The chairs on the outside are horrible, and the chairs with the big table on the inside, not good either.
Not really interested in back again as our first option.

Nice place next to the upper entry of the national park.
Comfortable and evolved with sound of the running water of the river next to the restaurant.
Speciality is the trout with macadamia nut but you can enjoy other different preparation styles. Other dishes such as chicken or meat are on the menu as well.
For dessert try their ice on stick. My kids loved it
Enjoy
