Set in the heart of the English lake districts, at the base of the fells sits Herdwicks cafe and bistro. Serving light lunches, and hearty meals Herdwicks has the best views in the village. You are sure to recieve a warm welcome from husband and wife team
rainy day in the Lakes with disabled dad, and a dog ??where to go, this cafe in the shop is great for both, just accross from the car park, dog friendly, easy access, no toiletsThank you so much for writing a review, I think you may have gotten the wrong place? We stopped by here while visiting the Coniston area. The cafe had a large and interesting menu, good pricing and more than enough choices for everyone. They even offer to make to order anything that isn't on their menu. The cafe was cosy, warm and welcoming. The staff were only to happy to help and offer advice on where to visit while in Coniston...there is more to Coniston than the exploits of Donald Campbell and his sad demise in Bluebird.
We came across this cafe in this delightful village on the way to Wastwater as it is situated on the coastal road to Egremont and you need to turn off here to get to Wastwater . It is an atomspheric place with a bath tub made into a seat and a very obliging owner who served us a lunch in the late afternoon just before closing. It also sells gifts etc and serves all the usual cafe food There is a good free village car park nearby. It was a lovely place to find when we had not eaten lunch! Also for a small village on the lesser visited outskirts of the Lakes an interesting find.

Cosy Cafe providing home cooked hot and cold food.
Although we knew we should have reserved a table at this popular restaurant, a table was found for the three of us and we enjoyed a delicious meal served by a very friendly waitress. There is plenty of parking space and there is a small shop in the restaurant. It is essential to make a table reservation !

We dropped in for coffee soon after lunch on Friday afternoon. There was no cappuccino except from a sachet as the machine was broken so it was latte or filtered coffee. Then there was no semi-skimmed milk. The mars bar slice was good and the cups of coffee were large. You get a good views of the Ratty trains arriving and leaving. The toilets are good and clean. The gift and book shop has lots of interesting books about the area as well as maps and guidebooks.

Recommended by a local B&B as a good place for a coffee and a snack and were pleasantly surprised at the wide choice on offer. Delicious home made quiche with tasty salad and home made lemon meringue pie. Were spoilt for choice with such a varied menu. Staff were lovely and very accommodating. Inside and outside seating. Feels like you are in the woods with lots of dense woodland around. A real find.......
