Went here for a family meal for my grandmas birthday. The bar has a real traditional pub feel, and the restaurant area is very dated, with some areas needing redecorating and cleaning. However, the service was excellent, the menu very good with a variety of choices. The food was beautiful and well cooked. The crockery could do with being renewed as itâs well used.Overall, a good pub, just needing some tlc.

My husband booked for 7 people over 2 months ago as a 30th birthday celebration for one of our friends. Upon arrival the new bar, despite its overly quirky & bizarre seating was warm & welcoming. At the time of booking obviously the previous tasting menu was showcased on their website which included a wine flight like most tasting menus. 2 of our friends had been at least 3 times before & had a wine flight as well as myself and my husband who had, had the same. When we sat down we mentioned to the lady serving us about the wine flight but to our disappointment we were informed they weren't doing one. One of our party explained that we had booked our table a good few months ago expecting the wine flight based on all our other visits and asked if they could do something similar for us. The waitress went to ask the manageress who came over and proceeded to repeat over and over that she could recommend wines to us but we would have to buy our own bottles for every course and no deal could be supplied similar to the price of the wine flight we had been expecting. My husband explained to her that he had booked the table expecting the wine flight as everytime we've been they've done one and the previous months menu on the website had one at a price of £40. The manageress then, in a very condescending tone told my husband "we dont do a wine flight for £40 sir, its £48" totally missing any point that was being made and focusing on my husbands £8 mistake. She also behaved like expecting a wine flight was the most ridiculous thing she had ever heard. She then proceeded to argue in a flappy and high pitched voice and roll her eyes behind my husbands back much to the shock of the rest of the party. The whole situation was handled very poorly and seemed to pave the way for an expensive mediocre evening. The food was nice, it wasn't amazing. I really enjoyed the venison but the puddings were not for me. The balance of the cheesecake was totally off, over sweet and sharp & left by most of our party. When I visited before the whole experienced floored me as can be seen by my previous review. It was such a special experience and one I had raved about to everyone. We had friends up from London and were so excited to take them here but sadly this time was nothing like last time. We spent £850 last night on a very flat evening. Compliments to our waitress Michelle who managed to pull it back for us customer service wise. I'm sad to say I wont be returning anytime soon.

We love Ashbourne, its not far from home and we visit on a regular basis. However, we have never until recently been for an evening meal. We had walked past the Lamplight before and liked what we saw so it was an obvious choice. We went on a busy night and they were fully booked so it's wise on busy days to book in advance. Staff were very pleasant and I loved their gluten-free menu - they just put a tick or a cross against what was or could be gluten-free and the odd comment where applicable. The food was really tasty and cooked as you would wish - they even had gluten free bread which is a really nice touch.Price-wise a bit higher than I would expect but not to an extent that we were put off.

We were holidaying in the area and celebrating our anniversary with friends and decided to visit based on the excellent Tripadvisor reviews. Saturday lunch with friends, and someone had recommended the Duncombe Arms. What a find. A lovely building, beautifully decorated. The staff were welcoming and efficient. The food was lovely. We mixed between brunch menu and lunch menu, resulting in odd combinations, but that didnât matter. Delicious. Highly recommended.
