The Elsted Inn

Welcoming, family-friendly and dog-friendly pub. We have a lovely relaxed, award winning restaurant that seats aprox 26 for lunch or dinner. We also cater for groups (e.g. walkers and cyclists enjoying the beautiful South Downs National Park nearby). We u

I must apologise to the proprietors of The Elsted Inn for my less than favourable review last time, I hadn't realised everything was prepared from scratch, so I went back for a second go.My friend and I started by sharing a mezzo platter, delicious. nice mix of flavours and textures. Then we both had the ravioli, an unfortunate unavoidable downside to food prepared from scratch is that there can only be one veggie option offered, and one option of most meats. This is more than compensated for by the sheer quality of the offerings. Lemon sponge cake for me, and coffee ice cream for my friend followed, both of which were prefect. We didn't book in advance which meant we had the only available table next to the Trotton fete committee jamboree, with lots of loud voices and people squeezing past. This isn't a criticism of the pub in the least, business is business, but next time we will book and ask for the table by the door if there is a big party booked in. I would think mid week would be quieter rather than a Saturday. Attentive staff without being too intrusive. Fabulous food. very reasonable price at seventy pounds with drink for three courses, for a meal cooked while you wait and not microwaved. One of my places of choice on the rare occasions I eat out. Don't miss it.Dear Bellerophon c,I can't thank you enough for trying us out again, and writing a second review to note your altered opinion. We are lucky to have lovely customers who leave great reviews - but, of course, we have the occasional poor review. I am really humbled that you apologised, and can only assume that we didn't explain the menu (or other things) properly to you on your previous visit. Thanks for coming back! I am delighted that you had a lovely time, and enjoyed your meal. That evening was more chaotic than normal, partly due to the fete 'after-party', so I am grateful that you were able to be understanding, and had a lovely meal despite the 'mayhem'. As you rightly state, we are normally a little quieter and have less moving around the restaurant. Hope to see you again.Best wishes,Thais

The Links Tavern

With stripped pine decor, a crackling open fire and muddy boots by the door – The Links Tavern is the quintessential country pub. Settle down to fabulous food and an array of real ales, served up in the cosy, welcoming surroundings of Liphook’s best pub.

Initial impressions were not so good, as barman seemed to be more interested in talking to customers, than attending usThen it improved. Food was good quality, and service was OK, although we had to go to the bar to order drinks, rather than at TableThank you for very much for your review, following your recent visit to The Links.Apologies that your initial impression wasn't so good, but we are glad to hear that you saw an improvement.Customer Service is at the forefront of our business and staff regularly receive refresher training in this field. If you were sitting in the bar area, unfortunately this is not an area to receive table service. However, if you were sitting in our restaurant, then table service is available to you.We look forward to seeing you again soon. Many thanks, Nicky

Why is it that pubs don't seem to train there staff properly. Not well organised at all and when the food came it was just about edible,in spite of asking for the steaks to be rare they were not and at £25 pp I expect more.Yet again a long delay between ordering and arriving. This pub needs to wake up and shake up and train the staff properly as it is really not good enough as the standard dosn,t justify the prices.Good afternoon , my name is Maria Solovieva , I am owner of the business. I appreciate your opinion, it is true that team is new and manager needs to train staff better. But you must agree that quality of food is very high and everything we do -we do fresh! No pre -prepped food and that’s why delays might happened ! I agree that on a busy day, service is slow but many places has the same issues . Good things takes time! This is how I see it .

Took my elderly mum and her friend to lunch here. Friendly and welcoming team and atmosphere. Good selection of lunch options with main menu, lunch menu and specials board all available. My macaroni cheese was plentiful, tasty and perfectly cooked.....delicious garlic bread crispy and hot on the side with just enough dressed salad to make me feel like I was having one of my 5 a day! My mum had the fish and chips and boy that fish could have given moby dick a run for his money - huge fillet of fish atop a pile of thick chunky crispy chips. She loved it. Our companion had a chicken, Tarragon and bacon pie with chips which she pronounced as being very tasty indeed. Having left room for pudding we had Banoffee Pie (the best I've ever tasted), mum had a most excellent Rum and Raisin Parfait (and would have licked the plate clean if she'd been at home!) , our companion had fruit crumble tart with ice cream......which was so generous a portion she was beaten and could not finish it. She is in her 90s though so she did pretty well. All in all, excellent lunch, friendly place. Highly recommended.Hi Rose F, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the Royal Exchange and I will definitely be passing on your praise to the Chefs. They'll be so happy to hear your really lovely feedback. We hope to see you again soon!Thank you,Kerry
