We were a bit dubious when our son suggested a Chinese takeaway but having had I were impressed by the taste as well as the value for money. The beef with black bean says was great. Everyone enjoyed their food. Thoroughly recommend it
An older style, double-fronted town pub reminiscent of a converted house with the bar to the right and the "Lounge" to the left. In a time warp. A proper, blokes, no-nonsense drinking pub, basic and unpretentious with the minimalist style and taste in decoration and furnishing. I last visited one of these in a back street in 1971. There should be a documentary produced about these pubs as they are fast disappearing! Food is on offer; sandwiches or chips with ....etc. Definitely not one of your fancy gastro-pubs!! A cheery barman and some good ales served: Golden Hen and Doom Bar. Worth popping in for a moment of nostalgia!

Visited for a takeaway to this Chinese establishment and were greeted by a very pleasant helpful young lady 'We gave our rather large order and said we would return in 20-25 mins true to our word we came back just over the 20mins and advised were given complementary crackers .The food was Fresh /Tasty and value for money and looking at the empty dishes and plates a great meal had by all ..We do not live in the area just visitors I sometimes wish our local Takeaways would apply this places prices/standards and customer services to their establishments..Enjoy
Where to eat Bar food in Lydney: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Visited Al's Plaice at Parkhill, Whitecroft on Tuesday 18th April. It is a very small fish and chip shop. I believe there is another larger one at Coleford. We were recommended this by some friends who said when they visited last year it was good.Well, I know this is a local business, and I hope that day was a one off, but I have to say, the fish and chips were probably the worst I've ever had from a Chippy. The chips were 'old'. They looked like and tasted like they had been there for a long time. They had shrivelled, looked old, a dark colour, like ageing potatoes. Also had lots of black bits on as if the oil had been used several times. The fish was better but not that good either. A very 'thin' batter, that in places didn't even cover the fish. One of the ladies serving was very pleasant and we had a nice chat with her. I'm sorry, but that's the only good thing I can say.As I said, I hope this is a one off and it isn't like this all the time.
