Fine food in a historic castle setting - an interesting experience. In cold weather ask to be seated inside the castle.

Dinner, which is by reservation only, is a five or eight course surprise tasting menu that will take guests on a sensory exploration of the different regions of Scotland. There is the option to have matched wines by the glass which Condita has shipped its
Wonderful restaurant on the south side of Edinburgh serving 8 course gastronomic delights with wonderfully matched wines. Service is excellent as is the preparation of the tasting menu. Condita is one of those no menu places. Owned by fine dining consultant, Mark Slaney, their head chef is Conor Toomey, formerly of the Isle of Eriska Hotel. Before taking charge of the kitchen at Eriska, Conor was executive chef at Amberley Castle at Arundel, head chef at Storrs Hall at Windermere and head chef at Coworth Park, Ascot. All of these held a prestigious 3 Rosettes in the AA Restaurant Guide.Highly Recommended.

So disappointed â¹ï¸This place has the great looks the patter and nice staff. What it doesnât have is gluten free foods. Not even fish and chips!!! That came as a great shock because nowadays practically all eating places serve various choices of gluten free food. The waitress even tried to say to me âThereâs plenty vegetarian choicesâ. I was like âwell that may be the case but it all has gluten in itâ!!! Obviously no training done here on allergies and seriously itâs shocking that in this day and age that this place is years behind the time. My friend had a burger and she said it was beautiful. The food certainly looked very nice that was going out to others. I had to pick the least thing that would cause effect so it was fish and chips and leave the batter to the side. As for going back again, well unfortunately, due to lack of food for me itâs a big fat NO!!!My suggestion would be to sort your menu out so you are up to the standard of every other resturant in the U.KHi,I am very sorry that you have chose to write a review like this and feel that this was your experience. We have many items on the menu that are gluten free and have a strong team who are trained to show you our allergen guides and go through processes to ensure guests with allergies can make an informed decision. It is unfortunate that on this occasion you did not want to go through these with the team member and insisted that you wanted to have fish and chips - which you are correct in stating that we don't have a gluten free batter for this but you chose to eat it regardless as this was what you wanted to eat.Allergies are a massive responsibility for our team and the processes we have are in place to ensure our guest safety at all times. I'm sorry you didn't feel your experience was great Team Melville

Delicious food, lovely welcoming atmosphere. Special thanks to Ben and the team for helping me to eat and finally enjoy mushrooms! This restaurant is a must for anyone making a trip to Edinburgh. Dear Meggles1Happy you took a shot in the dark in trusting us to help you like mushrooms, that's great news! If we can do this that's enough for making our day. Ben is indeed a brilliant team player and has lots of charm. We hope to see you again soon for lunch or dinner.

I ate here with family today and I simply cannot fault anything about the wonderful meal we all had. All 3 of us agreed the food, wine and service were top notch. The main course of ox cheek I had was quite possibly the best beef I've ever eaten, melting tender, packed full of flavour and with accompaniments that perfectly matched the richness of the beef. There's a lovely ambience in the restaurant and service is friendly, relaxed and unhurried. I should also mention the quality of the wine, we chose the cheapest red on the menu, a Spanish tempranillo shiraz which was incredible value. This was a faultless meal and we'll most definitely return.

Dropped in here and had the full Scottish breakfast which I had craved badly for 3 years while away in Australia and it was absolutely fantastic! Friendly atmosphere and very helpful staff so returned in the evening for a few Jars. Thank you for the hospitality!

My husband and I went for dinner and as we have been there before thought it would have been good - it wasn't. The customer service was fantastic - couldn't fault it but the food was shockingly bad and I feel that I've been cheated out of £60. The salad which came with the salad was warm, the chicken strips were tasteless and my main wasn't the best sea bass as it was served with what looked like everybody's left overs. I should have complaint but I was drinking wine and didn't realise how bad it was until I got home. I felt terrible for three days and now just recovering for it. My husband felt the same. We won't be returning.

We were just passing through Bonnyrigg and stopped off for drinks. Coffee was really nice, one of the best Iâve had in in a while. Really relaxed and friendly atmosphere with great service.Whilst we sat we saw some of the food being delivered to other tables and it looked lovely. The burgers looked amazing, just wish weâd had more time to try them. We will be back to eat as soon as possible.
