We called in on saturday around 7.30pm the bar was very quiet, resturant looked less than half full. A guy at the bar asked about food but was told by the person serving that they where not serving meals in the bar that night. As we ordered our drinks we asked if we could have a table for 3 but we where told by the manager that we could not be accomadated because there was a party of 50 in that night, so whilst we had our drink we ordered a chinese and left. This was the 1st time in a while that we have been because back in august we called in one evening for a relaxed evening meal, we where told that no bar meals where being served that evening, we reserved a table that was an hr wait but as we where in no real rush we where happy to wait. The reservation time came and went, no sign of the waitress that said she would come and find us when the table was ready so I went to find her, we where shown to our table but then it took over half an hour for someone to take our drinks order even though the resturant seemed quiet. We where about to walk out as it was approuching 9pm, my daughter was getting hungry but the chap who was serving us checked with the kitchen how long it would take to get the meals out and was he was very apolagetic for the time that we had been waiting. The Ship clearly does not have enough staff to cope and seems happy to turn people away, as a local we would like to support it but it seems that it has once again become unreliable. We won't be rushing back!Hi Siobhand604, I'm really disappointed we've let you down and received this poor rating. if you would like o get in touch with us regarding this review please give us a call on 01454 412521, kind regards, Taylor

The dining room at the Anchor is light and bright with double doors leading out onto the beautiful garden. With elegant country style decor and seating 40, it is extremely popular, so it is always a good idea to ring before you come or call and make a res
Average prices, below average food. The main disappointment was being told they didn't have any Sunday lunches left on arrival, despite pre-booking a table for 2.30pm. The garden was pleasant but the inside is in dire need of a renovation.

Saturday night is probably not the best night to visit for the first time but it is what it is.At 11 pm the bars are full of quite inebriated people which generally is fine unless they get too rowdy.one of my party wanted sparking water as he was driving but they didn't sell it!Thanks in stock Tuesday hope to see you again soon

The Royal George is gem of a pub right in the heart of Thornbury. We are the perfect place for a relaxing drink, a quick lunch or even a private party or meeting in one of our two fantastic function rooms. We have free Wi-Fi too so you can keep in touch.
The pub itself is nice enough and the staff are friendly but weâve had a few bad experiences with the food here recently. Weâve visited on a weekday for lunch and had a few different sandwiches and soups and the meat in the sandwiches was gristly and really poor quality. The soup was not homemade and tasted exactly like a well known brand. We also came on a Sunday in the last few weeks and had a really bad experience. It wasnât that busy but the food took ages to come and whilst we were waiting we saw a member of staff come running in from Aldi with some ingredients that theyâd run out of in the kitchen. I appreciate they they were trying to honour orders that people had made but it somewhat ruins the illusion when youâve paid around £10 for a meal and itâs made of cheap ingredients from the local supermarket! The bean bake in particular was a low point- it was basically a bowl of microwaved beans in a bbq sauce with no topping. The staff listened to our views and kindly gave us some money back but I donât think weâll be eating here again after a few disappointing visits Hi Sophie, I am sorry to hear about your disappointing visit here at the Royal George. We are in the process of many exciting changes including new chefs and new menus which will be launched this coming Friday. We would love for you to give us another chance by accepting a free meal on us as an apology. We would be happy to discuss anything with regards to your previous visits. Should you wish to get in touch, please call us on 01454416223 and speak to Syzmon to arrange this. Many thanks, Szymon.

Beautiful country pub in South Gloucestershire offering great cask ales and fabulous selection of drinks as well traditional home cooked country food. Large family friendly beer garden. Dog friendly areas.
Two of our party chose the gammon option, which they said was very good. There was only one fish option, which was cod and chips. The other member of our party and me chose the home made burger, which arrived on a piece of wood of the approximate shape and dimensions as a table tennis bat. Chips were in a small pot. There was no garnish. An interesting contrast between the well presented gammon and this burger option. Very noisy conversations in progress, but hardly the pubâs fault. As indicated in the heading a rather limited menu, and I wouldnât press for a further visit.Hi,Thank you for leaving us a review though I was slightly surprise by your opinion that the menu is limited! We have an extensive menu and we are regularly told there is so much choice its hard to pick. We currently have the choice of 18 main meals which are all freshly cooked to order on our menu, with at least 4 fish options, so I am assuming maybe on reading the menu you just missed these? Our homemade 8oz beef burgers are served in a salad dressed bun with onion chutney and a side of chips which we are always happy to serve on a plate if requested. We are sorry The Swan isn't for you.Best Wishes Nikki

The Anchor Inn is a friendly, welcoming, traditional pub that serves CAMRA award winning cask ales and delicious home cooked food. Our restaurant is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and evening meals and serves a popular roast on Sundays.
Went in here off chance for an evening meal. The welcome was fantastic just as the attention was all the time we were in there. Inside it is spotlessly clean. Well decorated as was the old fashioned pub.The menus had a large choice. My son who is a vegetarian had five choices. I, being a meat eater, could not decide what to have. In the end I had the Fish Pie. It was full of different sea food in a lovely sauce. My son had the Mushroom Stroganoff which he declaredâdelightful â. We both fell for the Sticky Toffee Pudding, home made and lovely. There was a choice of, I think it was, five gluten free deserts. If we lived in the area this would certainly be on our lists for a regular visit.
Where to eat Bar food in Thornbury: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Classic pub grub meals at a value to suit all with a large front patio area off the main bar with a large function room that can cater for 200 people
Recently attended a family wake here's organised but my wife.Rob could not have been more understanding and friendly throughout the process which was much appreciated. The spread was more than adequate, had an extensive range of buffet snacks and represented good value for money as do the bar prices in general. There is a large function room and back lounge with bar as well as the main bar / pool table area along with a front, paved beer garden (rear one still needs some work).Obviously the team there are working hard to drive the pub forwards, having taken over the running last year.Would recommend.Thank you for your kind words
