We arrived, & starred at by the barman, & when we asked for the menu, we where told abruptly, âseniors only todayâ. Iâm not impressed with how rude the guy come a crossed, it just seemed like, if you are not a local then you are not welcome.Being local certainly is not the case as most of our reviews are from customers whom we have not dealt with before and as you can see their responses are more than positive. Sorry if you thought you were being outcast because you werenât âlocalâ, we always suggest as with most other small establishments you telephone first to check table availability, had this been the case it would have been explained it was seniors lunch and hopefully have lessoned any confusion. Thank you for your feedback and we will look into how we can hopefully avoid confusion in the future.

Visited here again this week (July 4th) for lunch and very nice it was to,I had the Roast ham eggs and chunky chips (delicious) and my wife had the scampi, also very nice, there's sure to be something on this menu to satisfy most folk and they have now got a lunchtime menu as well, coupled with the nice welcome we received from a very nice young lady who served us, we really did enjoy our meals.

In need of a relaxing lunch break, we headed here as we know it well and we were not disappointed. Warm and friendly welcome, ale from The Philips Brewery was well served as was the white wine. Our lunch choice was leak and potato soup, lasagne, beef sandwiches, really tasty and well presented. A shared treacle tart and great coffees finished us off before a relaxing walk around the gardens. A great food and hotel venue, with great food and super staff.

The Wheatsheaf is a Grade II listed, 17th century, oak beamed, traditional, black & white building. A warm welcome is what you will receive from the Wheatsheaf team. With open fires, fantastic cask ales and great food - we hope you will feel at home.
May not be everyone's cup of tea but I enjoy a good pint, keeps a great Banks's Bitter and other beers seem to shift as well, typical traditional pub with great jukebox and real fire, friendly bar staff

An award-winning traditional family-run pub offering a wide selection of hand pulled cask ales, as well as a selection of continental lagers, ciders, Belgian beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks. An extensive pub-grub menu is available offering home cook
Came here for Sunday lunch having, for no real reason, forgotten about it for several months. We didn't choose the Sunday roast options as we had had plenty of roast dinners over Christmas and New Year. Instead, I had ham egg and chips and my husband had the surf and turf. Both were delicious with good sized portions. I am unfortunately gluten intolerant and they catered very well for this with a gluten free menu with numerous options. The beers were spot on as always.

Well on a Saturday night and arriving two premium lagers weren't available, not a great start. As for food I pay for what I eat but we didn't pay for the soup as it was sent back as it was a congealed mess that we could have stood the spoon up in. We kept eating as we were hungry and hoped it would get better but the garlic bread was soggy, the chips were the wrong ones and cold (which they changed), and the chicken burger was bland. And I have to say generally this was not good and we won't be rushing back!

Called in on the off chance of a table on a busy Friday evening of Carnival weekend. Staff were very helpful, attentive and amusing. Great set menu offer available £10 fro two courses which we had. The fish was cooked perfectly and the turkey leek and mushroom pie was so tasty. Would recommend it to anybody.

We visited with friends and arrived shortly after 12pm. It was already busy which is always a good sign of popular pub. We found a table and were swiftly greeted by friendly staff who took our order for drinks and food. We had the specials which were excellent with Good portions and clearly freshly made. Will definitely return again.
