We stopped off hear early on a Saturday morning the food is buffet style and eat as much as you like Very good food all freshly cooked My only small complaint is the service is a bit hit and miss , itâs not made clear that itâs help your and the prices arenât clear However we were pleasantly surprised at the final bill Will definitely call in here again next time we are passing
We stopped in here for lunch after a quick walk round Gillingham, quick because the high street was dominated by 8 estate agents and about the same amount of charity shops. As far as I could tell this was one of only two pubs in Gillingham. We were allowed into the bar area with our dogs, as were a few other people, and the very friendly and helpful barmaid laid our table and brought us menus. Food was basic pub food; my wife had a baked potato with prawns and I had the ham, eggs and chips. For what they were they were very good, ham off the bone and nice chips, and we were happy enough with what we had. Reasonable sized portions that were plenty for us at lunchtime. Really enjoyed the Sharpe's beer too. Seemed a very friendly pub with a good atmosphere and would definitely visit again if in Gillingham, although that is very unlikely as there seemed to be very little to see or do there.

Quaint old English pub where the food and service was great. We went here for a family meal at the end of our holiday. We booked for the Friday night, which was probably a good idea. The restaurant was busy and had a good atmosphere. Staff were friendly polite and attentive. The food was excellent and had a good selection which was reasonably priced for the quality.
Family run country pub serving generous portions of home cooked food.
Went to this pub on Saturday evening 1st July with some friends and the food was brilliant and pub wasn't bad either with friendly staff and locals My wife had the fish pie on the specials board, I had the steak & kidney pie and our friends had the lamb shank from the main menu.My wife said it was the best fish pie she's ever had, and as far I can remember the only pie that was better than this was my mums. Please enjoy AndyPleased you all enjoyed it. Thank you.

Found The Walnut Tree via Google when looking for somewhere nice to stop for breakfast en route to Cornwall, great reviews and we were not disappointed!!! The breakfast was delicious, service was great & friendly and the pub/restaurant delightful. All at an extremely good price. Highly recommended and would definitely visit again.

Just had an excellent Sunday lunch. The roast beef is extremely good and very tasty. The sweets are also very good. The bar has a very good selection of beers, lagers etc. We look forward to our next visit.

Set in a delightfully converted 17c farmhouse overlooking Hardy's Blackmore Vale and in 15 acres of its own meadow and woodland. Log fires in winter and a panoramic terrace for summer eating. Our team of chefs produce wonderful meals from fresh local and i
.................but management and a capable chef are basic requirements. The weather was warm, so we had booked a table for lunch at the Coppleridge as they were able to offer us an outside table on their terrace. However, on arrival we were shown to an indoor table in a stuufy little room. We explained to the waitress that we had booked an outdoor table (and the waiting staff as a whole were very willing) and, after much huffing and puffing, a table was laid for us on the terrace. One of our party had ordered pork and, when it arrived swimming in gravy, there was none of the promised crackling or apple sauce. The waitress apologised, explaining that they had a new chef. Heavens above, if a chef can't put a roast lunch together he shouldn't be in the kitchen!A little later one of the puddings arrived with chocolate ice cream instead of the ordered mango and ginger ice cream. The waitress took it away and returned with scoops of mango and ginger ice cream dumped into the remains of the chocolate ice cream. High standards! It is perhaps petty to mention that the third guest's cup of coffee arrived after the first two guests' cups had been finished.A disappointing lunch, but at least Autumn is approaching and we won't have to look for somewhere to eat with an outside table for the next six months or more!

The restaurant is suitably decorated with posters of Italian towns/cities, and of the film 'The Italian Job'...football caps, Venetian carnival masks etc. Tablecloths are gingham green and white (Trattoria style). The food was incredible. I was served zucchini fritti, for a starter, threequarters of a plateful of slices of courgette which had been fried in a delicate batter and served with a little pot of garlic butter, assorted lettuce and spinach leaves and quartered tomato. Tasted great ! Of the other two diners, one had a potful of button mushrooms in warm melted cheese, served with toasted bloomer loaf slices; the other had a plateful of calamari rings fried in a delicate batter and served with a little pot of sauce which looked like mayonnaise (I wasn't allowed a taste !) and garnish of assorted lettuce leaves. They both told me it was all delicious. Then came the 'mains' ... ! One person had a fantastic thin crust pizza with mozzarella and a choice of all the other fillings on offer onto the one (called 'the Buffalo') - no pineapple available here, in true Italian style...but everything else, and he asked for it to be topped with grated parmesan ! The other co-diner had a dish of gamberi prawns and mussels served with a creamy sauce and a side dish of vegetables. I had a large dish of 'fish soup'... masquerading as soup, it contained chunky pieces of every fish you could think of, I recognised salmon, haddock, cod, plus about a dozen mussels, clams, large prawns, tiny octopus and what I imagine are the inside of some other shell fish (possibly whelks ?) big and white and curled round, all bathed in a tomatoey, peppery soup, with three slices of toasted bloomer bread. It was too much for me ! But I ate most of it and all the shell fish. Then a long wait to order dessert .... one pot of 'coppa rossa' which was a raspberry ripple stile ice-cream, one 'tartufo' (the word means 'truffle') which he insisted on calling a 'tart-UFO' , which looks like a small, chocolate, tennis ball with hazelnut ice cream inside. And one 'walnut pot' on the specials board, which arrived in a little ceramic pot, containing milk flavour ice-cream, topped by tiny, caramelised walnut pieces. I found the desserts underwhelming... the 'tartufo' was obviously a factory produced bought in ice-cream product. The others may have been made on site. We should have stopped after the main course ! The coffee was exquisite, I wish I'd remembered to ask the name of the brand ! The only real flaw was the length of time between courses, which was longer after each course... eventually one of us had to get up and ask for the coffee in the bar ... it seems the waitress had decided that as there were only two tables of diners left, and then only us, it was o.k. to disappear into the bar and leave us to it. After the coffee, We even had to go into the bar and ask them to get her to bring us the bill. There were choc mints served with the coffee and mint imperials served with the bill. On a different note... I think the fine gravel all over the front 'garden' would be hard to push a wheelchair over, the doors are too small for a wheel chair, there is an awkward gap to negotiate between the bar and the restaurant door. I didn't see any steps. But I think it could not be considered 'easy access' for the disabled. It was the end of the evening when I headed to the 'ladies'. No 'disabled' toilet. The ladies was in the same corridor as the spare high chairs and a door labelled 'hell's kitchen', which was open. Overflowing rubbish bin, mess around it on the floor ... messy looking kitchen sink...that was the view when you passed it. I didn't look inside. I suppose it was the end of a busy evening, but.... not very nice to see ! I thought restaurant cooks/chefs worked in a clean manner, clearing up as they go... or maybe that's only on Masterchef ? I didn't see the food preparation and cooking area... I just hoped that was clean and decided not to think about - the full stomach would revolt ! Get a bigger kitchen rubbish bin, or keep that door shut ! I'd only just eaten a magnificent meal.... what sort of image was I going to leave with ?I was certainly a little troubled by that sight. The service was slow - but attentive once the waitress/waiter arrived. I expect a bit of a wait for food cooked from scratch. The food was good ! The diner who paid for our meal decided the long wait was too long, became irritated and for that reason only left half the 'proper, intended ' tip.... does someone here have a lesson or two to learn ?

17th Century Coach House under new ownership Committed to providing a casual relaxed dining environment, good home cooked food using quality ingredients and great value for money. We can accommodate larger bookings.
Although The Kings Arms has changed ownership - don't panic nothing has changed. Still an excellent menu, still well prepared and delicious meals, still the lovely staff.Tested our favourite pub again tonight and I can sleep again at night. Other than Rabbie Burns missing from the wall in the main restaurant - everything is the same. Phew x
